Why was FYR scratched @OP and is he off the Derby Trail?
What do you guys think of this horse and the possibility of running a new top at CD? I thought his Florida Derby was outstanding. This horse looks like he can run all day long.He handled adversity quite well after getting shut off at the rail, swung wide and closed faster than the top 2 finishers. Before this trouble, he never had racing room while waiting for something to open up in the turn. His connections know how to get a horse ready for the Derby.I don\'t if Prado has first call on Scat Daddy but I\'d love to see Matz talk him into a Jockey/Trainer repeat in the Derby.
Sand,
Chelokee is a nice bomb if he goes in the derby. You are correct about the Fla Derby except that he saved every inch of ground before he got stopped inside.I thought he finished well when he got out.
Mike
Mike, Good point. Is there any doubt that the Fla. Derby was the strongest Derby prep race? I thought he ran best that day all things considered. He seems like a big, long strided type that never really got the space needed to get going. After swinging out in the stretch, he never had a chance to catch the leaders.Closing ground at GP is not easy and Scat had first run of it. He may find CD much more to his liking than the speed favoring surface @GP.
Yes, he will be a long shot but he will be a fresh horse with a solid 2YO foundation, capable of a new top.
FYR was scratched due to a bone bruise. As for Chelokee, he\'s 26th on the list of graded stakes earnings tied with Reporting for Duty and Deadly Dealer. Doubt he gets into the field.
Thanks Wrongly. Where did you find an updated graded earnings list? DRF has not updated their\'s through yesterday. If Chelokee looks like he will not get in, does anyone know if the connections are considering the Lexington?
Chelokee is now a coinflip to get in.He\'s tied for 26th,but several ahead of him aren\'t likely to run:
Jack Junior 11th
Xchanger 15th
Officer Rocket 18th
Skip Code 21st
Adore the Gold 25th
Sedgefield 22nd and Bwana Bull 23rd are possible
Don\'t be surprised if another O\'neill horse or two defects(Great Hunter/Liquidity or Mervs nag)in the next couple of weeks.
Maybe the Lexington 1-2 could show up.Its gonna be tight.
FYR is out of the Derby picture, wouldn\'t expect him back until around Preakness time.
