Title: Yah There are Rules, But They Don't Apply to Me.
Post by: Silver Charm on February 12, 2007, 06:24:47 AM
Just another example of the arrogance that is occuring consistently with a very small segment of Trainers.

This adds up to close to 70 days of suspensions in around 18 months of work. There were numerous \"TV talking heads\" who about a year ago endorsed Dutrow, with a \"if I had a bunch of horses he is a trainer I would employ\" commentary.

Promoting people who lack ethics and integrity is not healthy for the sport. Having Don King and Mike Tyson as the face of your industry will take you right where they took boxing.

"I've brought 150 owners to New York and they keep harassing me. I guess they've got their reasons.\"

Hey Rick, stop cheating and they will stop harassing you!

I\'m supposed to believe he is traveling to Brazil with Ronnie Eubanks on a vacation and he is taking his girlfriend.

Do people actually believe this Bullsh!t?

Sounds like a horse hunting business trip for his current owners to me.

Unbelievable, cheat and you will be rewarded..He got to choose when he does his time, what kinda  crap is that.Brazil, for Carnivale...what a life.. These trainers ,owners ,all need to be held accountable. If they continue getting off with just a slap on wrist ,there will never be integrity in NY racing.Ricks comment in this article just makes a mockery of the stewards.

On the other hand, you have the CHRB saying \"Yah, those are the rules, but we\'re not going to enforce them.\"

I was a bit surprised that the rule aginst contacting barn staff even existed.  There was some discussion on this board a while back (in the context of a Rick Arthur chat on Bloodhorse, if memory serves) suggesting that for multi-track trainers, a suspension was basically business as usual.

Dutrow is suspended for basically running the operation over the phone during a
previous suspension. I think we all agree that the cheating wont stop until the
penalties are meaningful.

About a month ago in the DRF, Scott Lake said he spent the entirety of his
suspension with his wife in a small town in Mexico where a lot of his help
came from.

So a lot of phone calls back and forth between the Lake barn at Belmont and a
small town in Mexico would not look suspicious because all the Lake grooms and
hotwalkers are calling home to Mexico every day.

So what was Lake doing down Mexico way--recruiting hotwalkers or outsmarting
NYRA? Is it possible Lake somehow knew of the Dutrow investigation and took his
cell phone \"south of the border\"? Inquiring minds want to know.

All these guys have to do is use a cellphone registered to someone else. Get a couple of \'beard\' cellphone owners and that should do the trick.

People will cheat as long as the punishment is a slap on the wrist.

Why is Capone I mean Dutrow not subject to some sort of \"three strikes and you are out\" policy.

These guys (Dutrow, Lake, et-all) are blatantly rubbing the noses of the establishment in their own sh!t.

If memory serves, there was a \'wise guy\' trainer suspended in Fla years ago, who took up residence in the hotel that overlooked the Calder track,

Prob never missed a beat, took it all in via telephone and binocs.

The rules are there to economically hurt and if trainers are still getting the daily and purse earnings then the suspension really loses alot. I think the substitute trainer gets the money in most cases.

The fact that a suspended trainer talks to his help or owners means exactly zero.Too many people think that these trainers have this vast horse knowledge that others do not(illegal stuff aside). Many trainers laugh when they hear the term great horseman tossed around. There is only some much you can do with a horse and many, many guys know it very well.

Until the people who run the various tracks \"rule off\" certain guys, not much will change. I wonder if the cheating trainers, making big money, would continue to cheat if racetracks started to rule off guys here and there.
