Title: Is anyone else disappointed....
Post by: Sandreadis on February 06, 2007, 05:56:07 PM
at how little actual handicapping takes place in this forum? Everyone seems so passionate about many of the issues relating to thoroughbred racing, but little has to do with actually picking winners.
One of the issues relating to this is the time that the Race of the Week is put out. Many times it is late Friday night and few have a chance to contribute to the discussion before heading to the track Saturday. Maybe it can\'t be put up any sooner, I don\'t know.
What about adding \"Focus\" races that the very experienced people from this forum can expand upon, adding their thoughts and ideas. Does anyone else out there want to see more handicapping and race analysis??

I think we all would, but the other topics make for very interesting reading written by some very intelligent people.

Nothing is stopping anybody from posting about a specific race and inviting dialogue about it. Perhaps you can get the ball rolling and find a race that you would like to talk about. Or perhaps,  find a race in the Red Board Room that can offer something to discuss.

1st at Santa Anita on Wed - Nashoba\'s Key overbet? - Film Editor gets Chavez - fronts on or off?

8th - Mig stays on Nasty Gent for terrific second out connections - was 1st start just practice?

Picking winners is reserved for weekends, and summer racing. Who really follows this crap  the industry offers up during the week?

Sooti,

Don\'t be run off by a bitchy reply to your post. I follow this stuff everyday and appreciate your insights.
Nashoba\'s Key will be overbet especially with Gomez up. Paceless race. I like your horse. Also find the 5 interesting. Should run a new top 2nd off layoff. Like the blinkers on. Distance a ?mark for all but 8 horse who ran a new top at the distance a long time ago.
Could be a good angle on Spawr\'s horse in the last. 12 horse should be tough. Showed big speed with MSW\'s down the hill. Could last a long way on the lead with bottom claimers. Bred better for the dirt.

Beware, attempting to pick winners in advance may be dangerous to your reputation.

Forget my reputation...it\'s dangerous to my health.

Although I\'ve done it a few times on this board with reasonable success.

But why fart around with a cheapo Wed card from SA or AQUI?

Guess the Gomez horse was overbet  and no value, but still won, and those other horses in the eighth didn\'t run much.

The good racing is coming up soon enough.

The reason to fart around with cheapo Wednesday cards is that they pay the winners on those days as well. This may be a surprise to those who desire to only bet races with horses that run zeros or better. But those of us who are not weekend warriors and are not fixated only on supposed \'good racing\' hope to find betting opportunities on a daily basis.

What was so bad about SA\'s card yesterday anyway? Three allowance level grass races, a couple of other full field races to bet on, almost $5 million bet, some good prices. Step on into the pools. The water\'s OK.

Frank,

Classic February Wednesday card....One field greater than 9 runners, 3 MDN races out of 8.

Mike is not betting poly tracks.....

You all have fun any way you see fit, it\'s your money.

hey tony - congradulations on the tourney no matter the outcome - all the players that i know of who competed in vegas really have been nothing less than gentleman and sportsmans - before , during and after . class act everyone !
the rescheduled WEBN - the \"poly prep\" is up saturday , i\'m thinking joe got even trounces by daylight and gun it runs well second time poly   ...

Marcus, Nice call on Joe Got Even in the WEBN Sat.You said he\'d win by daylight and 4 1/2 lengths sure qualifies.$5.40 on the win is probably shorter than you\'d like but nice call nonethless.

thanks sandreadis - i\'ve had some very good teachers on this board , but i\'ve still got alot to learn ...
imo - joe\'s numbers just looked too strong against the field and i didn\'t think he was going backwards (just yet) . i thought the rider wisely didn\'t ask for more than the horse wanted to give last 100 yards or so . handicapping the race 2 weeks ago , i almost settled on the 02X likely candidate 30-1 ml - then came to my senses . next wknd - borderland derby(sun) ,sam davis(tam) , turf paradise derby(tup) & southwest(op) .
