Title: BUCKLAND MANOR's DQ in Sat's "Val Royal" stakes
Post by: jbelfior on December 18, 2006, 04:34:48 AM
Looking for anyone who saw this and has an opinion.

First time in my turf speculating career that i have been taken down on a jockey objection (decision by Cali\'s 3 blind mice cost me a $3K plus score)

The incident occurred in deep stretch, there was no steward\'s inquiry, and BM appeared to be 1 to 1 1/4 lengths in front of the one horse ridden by Cohen (who lodged the objection.)

IMO, Cohen tried to go through a hole that was closing. Not even going to go into what I think of Aaron Gryder as a jock. Gryder continued to whip away at BM with the left hand as his mount was bearing out which not only cost him precious ground, but led to the whole DQ thing.

Good Luck,
Joe B.

Joe -

I watched the race on TVG.  Since I lacked a financial interest, I didn\'t pay much attention, but Gary Stevens thought it was a good call.  Cohen had to check to avoid clipping heels with the horse that was bearing out and lost third money by only a head.

What\'s interesting is that if Cohen doesn\'t lose 3rd, the stewards probably let it stand. I respect Gary Steven\'opinion, but I still feel Cohen tried to go through something that was closing up long before he committed.

Appreciate your response.

Good Luck,
