Title: 7/13 contest
Post by: nunzio on July 11, 2002, 08:56:30 PM
I\'ll just make one selection, ISLAND GUIDE
in the 4th.  I\'ll bet the whole imaginary waad on him.  Good Luck.

The rules, he said, do not apply to him. Well done, Big Cat. Screw the putting contest. Take your driver out.

A note:

In case of a scratch I\'d suggest that we go 4 deep in our picks (5 if you\'re really concerned) so that if a horse is scratched you go down to the next pick on your list.

No risk of rain Sat. so we should be ok with the 4 turf races.

I guess Nunzio thinks that 20 pts. will be good enough to win the contest.

Is the Va Derby, which is being simulcast by Bel, part of this contest? Not that it matters all that much. This seems to me to be one of the worst Sat Bel cards I have ever seen.

Mall,

I have the sheets for that race so it\'s fine with me to use it if HP agrees.

I agree about the card -- completely uninspiring.  But we\'ll play the hand we\'re dealt.

David,

I\'m busy today and I would rather stick with the nine Belmont races we agreed to. I see three races to play, maybe.

The quality of the card betting-wise is entirely irrelevant for the purposes of this contest. What you and Mall are talking about is \'value\', and since you get the same points for 2-1 that you do for 20-1, this \'value\' factor has been effectively eliminated. Even exotic scores (if you picked the cold tri) are unrewarded, as a cold tri (35 pts.) doesn\'t get you much in relation to a winner (20 pts.). You can\'t pass races and payoffs are meaningless. This format is not designed to reward betting opportunities, so there\'s no real reason to seek them out or place any emphasis on them. Nine races is plenty to settle this one. HP

HP,

Are you sure you have accepted the format for the contest?

It seems like every post you have made about the format since has knocked it in some fashion.

Perhaps I\'ll join this little party if I have time.

Jerry Jr.,

Are you sure you accept the format of this bulletin board?

Most of your posts seem to knock Jerry, Thoro-Graph or some combination therof. But I guess THE SHEETS bulletin board is too small a venue to contain a talent like yours.

I accept the rules of the contest. Mall and Patent posted something about the lack of value at Belmont and what a poor card it was. I responded that it didn\'t matter and I gave reasons why I don\'t want to include the Virginia Derby.

Sorry if this was too much for you, but you could always mind your own business and refine your brilliant jibes. I can barely contain my excitement at the thought that you might join in. HP

HP,

Nice way to deflect. What rules of this board? I congratulated Michelle in my last post - there was no knock against poppa Jer. Mind my business? If it were up to you I\'d be censored even more than I have been here.

By the by, I\'m not just talking about your post today regarding the format. You have knocked the format in every post since you said you accepted the rules. Please don\'t make me prove it. I don\'t want to make you look even more foolish than you already do.

HP,

I\'m happy to keep it at the 9 Bel. races.  My comment on the card had nothing to do with value since I have not seen the MLs or any public handicapper picks.  It\'s just a boring and dull card without a lot of \'interesting\' races.

But that doesn\'t affect the enormity of this contest in the cosmic scheme nor is it an excuse not to try to select as briliantly as I can.

Baby Jerry,

Prove away, my mentally challenged friend. I didn\'t \'say\' I accepted the rules, I accepted the rules and I\'ll be posting accordingly, soon. I was critical of the rules. I\'ll even repeat what I said - the rules of this contest have nothing whatsoever to do with handicapping, and reflect nothing about the skills related to handicapping. I\'ve said it more than once. Here it is, all in one place, so you don\'t have to look around too much. You\'re just doing what you always do, trying to instigate something. You\'re a sharp one. I\'m sure your post to Michelle was sincere. ;)

Few things are more foolish than responding to you, so I don\'t think I could look much worse. If it were up to me...I probably wouldn\'t bother censoring you. Nothing you have to say amounts to anything. HP

David,

I disagree with you. Several of the races are very competitive between some short priced contenders and thus \'interesting\' for the purpose of the contest. The card is indeed boring and dull because there are only two or three spots I can see any possible value. You don\'t really need a morning line or public handicappers to see this, do you?

In terms of the cosmic scheme of things, it\'s Plato v. Aristotle, Ali v. Frazier and...Gore v. Bush all over again. The earth will shake. You should be safe out there in the desert. Mine will be up early, before I leave work. HP

is this one a head to head duel, or can others join in?

Post away. Follow the format so you can measure your score against the titans. The more the merrier. I\'m sure David and I will not lose our focus based on anyone else\'s work. HP

HP,

You are correct that there are some competitive races and that will be good for good contest.  It just struck me as a yawner of a card in terms of the type of races being run and lack of marquee horses.  It\'s probably pre-Saratoga fatigue.  Also, I don\'t see any short-priced favorites that I would be dying to bet against.

You forgot AL v. NL and since you\'re posting first maybe I\'ll just copy you to assure a tie :)

OK, I\'m in. I wonder if TG will allow The Freak to come out of retirement/banishment so I can defeat him once again?

David,

I\'m getting closer to agreeing with you with each post. The pre-Saratoga thing is definitely in force.

Michael,

I\'m sure they would love it if you posted over on THE SHEETS and explained you just wanted to give the Freak a chance to express himself. HP
