Post by: high roller on November 07, 2006, 10:49:01 AM
both thorograph & the sheets had this horse coming off a huge top, so i threw the horse out and paid the price.

Does a $1 p4, 2 $1p3\'s, $5 ex, $1 tri and $1 super count as paying the price?

High Roller:

Don\'t kick yourself, kick me.

I keyed FRIENDLY ISLAND (love the cut-back & turf to dirt going short angle) with 5 horses and didn\'t catch it. We both failed to consider the O\'Neill-Pfizer angle going 6F.

Good Luck,

As I mentioned before, I \"kangarooed\" through the pick 3s (keyed OB, missed Thor, had Miesque, missed Round Pond, had Red Rocks).

On an average February day at Aqueduct, if the \"1\" or \"rail\" horse wins the first couple of races, I\'m blindly throwing the \"1\" into every gimmick I make thereafter,no matter how slow the animal or how incompetent the trainer. Tickets have been cashed in the past using just this logic.

But it never occurred to me to use this same logic on \"Racing\'s Biggest Day\".

Experience is a man\'s best teacher; unfortunately in handicapping the lessons can get quite expensive.

Thor was visually spectacular in his 2nd place finish in california. If you looked at videotape and not sheet numbers, you might have been able to include him in exotics.

sure, new top bounce projection blah blah blah but that bounce only matters if he\'s a favorite, at 15-1 all that stuff goes out the window. You can take a shot on a horse that can run a neg number at that price....especially if he figures to save some ground.

You gave me an interesting idea for a Breeder\'s Cup Day bet: An all grass pick three.

You would have cashed it.

Thanks Hoarse.

Could you tell me what the payout would have been so my wife can spend the extra money?

If you give her about $450.00 you can be proud and she can be happy.

But I wasn\'t trying to be a wise guy.  It seems like a legitimate betting option to me.  Since many bettors consider themselves grass specialists why not give them a specialty grass bet.

I don\'t know if I consider myself a grass specialist, but what a shame if it turned out I was, with me living in the wrong continent for the last 30 years...

I\'m sure an all grass Pick 3 on BC Day is possible tote-wise. I have always thought that a \"pick Pick 3\" or \"pick Pick 4\" (bettor determines which races
are contained in the bet; races wouldn\'t have to be in order; house could refund bet if pool size is not large enough) would be a good fit on BC Day.

I do not think you would ever see the 3 turf races run in succession, though.

I agree.  I would neither expect nor want them to be run in order.

No, but at least you have enough money to buy a sling after breaking your arm patting yourself on the back.

You are absolutely right. I still have to 9-5 it because of my hard headedness of eliminating horses in exactas because of past historical patterns (probable bounce off of the return race top),post positions, pace scenario, etc.

That stuff all goes out the window if you are getting value and THOR\'s ECHO was certainly that (15-1 with a last number that certainly puts him right there).

I looked at TGJB\'s betting guidelines before I played that race. Made the win bet and protected with exactas. I obviously did not protect enough.

Good Luck,
Joe B.
