I don\'t play NY at all after Belmont closes....Aqueduct is a dreary, cold place that doesn\'t excite me at all. When the go to the inner track you can box the four inside hourses like a dog race the bias is so strong. Soon we will have Churchill, Oaklawn, Fairgrounds, Tampa Downs and Gulfstream which is just fine for larger fields with handicapping opportunities. I think they should just close and sell Aqueduct. Only reason the place seems to matter is the possibility of slots. With a sale....they might take the proceeds to boost the product at Belmont and Saratoga. Wishful thinking.
Gee.. That\'s too bad because the 14-1 opener winner from 1-for-2006 Terracino jumped off the pages in the Big A 1st.. Wasn\'t hard to utilize the rest of the exotics either for the $476 tri..
I love Aqueduct and have no problem with it when we go to the Inner Tube either.. That inside bias wive\'s tale is older than the hills too. You really think that Churchill\'s fall meet and the lousy GP winter racing (based on \'04-\'05\'s HORRIBLE meets) are better than AQU? Yikes..
Steve,
Glad to see you nailed the 1st at Aqueduct. The horse did jump off the page at that fat price. But I hope you\'ll not be freezing your ass off at Aqueduct this winter while we\'re enjoying the sunshine at the beautiful Stronach palace.
Frank
Ka,
of course the GP and CD meets are better than the Aqu inner meet.
the fact that you followed that statement with a \"yikes\" is just sad.
to each his own Steve....seems to me that horse racing is an outdoor activity that generally works best above 45 degrees with a few fans around. I am guessing you played the A race watching a tv simulcast. Anyone who follows professional sports or racing has suffered listening to some loud New Yorker types at a bar say that whatever is \"NY\" is the very best. In their mind nothing else compares.... unfortunately they also generally \"share\" their biased opinions with anyone nearby even without being asked. I agree with Frank.... some patrons would much rather be at Gulstream or Tampa winter meets on their worst day than Aqueduct on its best. Perhaps this winter you can wear a red knit ski-mask so we can pick you out as one of the six fans screaming obscene language at the losing jockey along the rail.

Ummm, yes!
LOL
Steve,
I kinda do think the CD Fall/Winter is on par with AQU outer fall/winter, and beats the inner. GP Winter has to beat the Aqu Inner, although Stronach more or less did not improve the GP configuration with his redesign.
It\'s not to say that the AQU inner doesn\'t have it\'s good Saturday card every now and then, it\'s just not that entertaining most of the time.
Stellianos and Runaway Russy....you can count on it this winter at the Big A.

Steve
I have supported NY Racing year round for quite a while, but this winter the
old track on Gentilly Blvd in the Big Easy will be getting most of my action.
I can not find any reason to be optimistic about anything NYRA is doing right
now, and probably the best thing they could do at this point is cut back to a 4
day, 10 race a day racing week for the winter months.
The Churchill people know how important it will be to re-establish Fair
Grounds after the one year Katrina hiatus, and I feel fairly confident that they
will produce a simulcast product which will rival those originating in Florida
and California.
Bankruptcy or no Bankruptcy, NY Racing is at a crossroads and the people and
organizations entrusted with its well being have some very hard choices to make
and some rough sledding ahead of them.
Richie,
I have been a supporter of the Fairgrounds for many years and look forward to the return of racing to New Orleans. However, I don\'t share your enthusiasm that this will be a very good meet. Recently I was in NO and what I saw left me feeling that the city was a long, long way from being back to pre hurricane. I think that many of the trainers who raced elsewhere last winter are not ready to return just yet. I hope you\'re right and we have a topnotch meet with some great grass racing and exciting young horses but I have my doubts.
Frank,
That stuff they call grass at FG is nothing short of a poor joke.Maybe this year the grass course will be green and not knee deep.
Mike
Frank:
Understand your skepticism, and having lived in NO and worked at FG a
while back I am well aware that, even pre Katrina, New Orleans was a city known
for crime, poverty and political corruption. I\'ll admit that NO and FG face uphill
battles to re-establish themselves.
But then again, nobody expected the \"Aints\" to be 5-1 at this point in the
NFL season.
CD might be in a tight spot in that to re-establish the attractiveness
of the simo product, they may have to cut back on the number of state bred races
they run, and they will need cooperation from Louisiana horsemen in this regard.
Richie-
Do you know how many statebred races they are required to run a day in Louisiana?
I think each track has to card a certain number per day (2?), and as long as they fill, they must run them.
Ill Bred:
My recollection is that most 10 race Fair Grounds cards had 3 and even 4 La. Bred
races.
You might want to look at the recently concluded Louisiana Downs meet to get a
sense of how many state bred races to expect.
A lot will depend on the composition of the horse population they have to draw
from. I think CD needs to establish a simo following for FG in the month or so
between FG opening (Thanksgiving) and the opening of Gulfstream. I also think
that Tampa will continue to get action nationwide from winter simo players.
Richie,
I am sceptical but I hope it works out the way you say. I\'m even more sceptical about the Saints. 8-8 team at best in my opinion. Ravens should handle them this week.
Miff,
I love the grass racing at FG.
Well, I don\'t mean to belabor the point, but there have been riches beyond dreams to be had all week at Ozone Park! (OK.. that\'s an exageration..) BUT.. the last 3 days have been an orgy of overlays, and the TG nums, patterns and profiles unlock all doors!

Point is, form and figs are holding up FABULOUSLY with the move from BEL to AQU, and it\'s crazy to ignore the opportunities just because \"it\'s Aqueduct..\"
Did you enjoy your weekend at Aqueduct? ;-)
It was beautiful at Churchill on Sunday, and I got to see some promising two-year-olds.
Back to Aqueduct, I was really looking forward to betting Day Pass in the Nashua. Check out his debut if you haven\'t seen the tape. His workout at the Kee sale was the best I saw all year. He is a monster.

Day Pass rolled to an easy victory today at 2-to-1.
Sorry about the price, but he was no secret to those who saw his debut or watch the two-yr-old sales.
