Title: Breeders Cup Talk - Juv Fillies
Post by: Michael D. on September 18, 2006, 01:38:23 PM
first of all, dreaming of anna - quite a race yesterday at WO.

a 2 yr old filly, just five ticks slower than the grade 1 horses in the big one, and she did it under a hand ride!!

can\'t breed them much better than this - by rahy, out of a stakes winning broad brush mare out of kittens first, dam of kittens joy.

:21.2, :43.3 speed !!

might be better suited for turf, but they are heading to CD. can\'t blame them.

have to believe point ashley is the deserving fav at this point though.

the dmr deb was awesome, ans she is bred to go longer.

untouched talent is the only other i have seen so far that might be as good.

i didn\'t like her in the dmr race - thought it was too short for her. she closed well for second though, and might be a terror going two turns at CD.

ap indy, roberto, and nijinsky on bottom.

Michael D,

I thought the Debutante was a bad race for G1 fillies. Point Ashley had a perfect setup with an extremely hot pace that fell apart in the stretch. She looked very good but will have to prove she can deal with adversity to win me over. The other filly you mentioned, Untouched Talent, looked very ordinary to me in her two Del Mar races.

Yesterday I had the pleasure of attending the races at Woodbine. We had the best card of racing we\'ve had in a long time. The highlight of the day was watching the filly Dreaming of Anna storming down the stretch of the best turf course in NA. She will take some beating if she can duplicate her turf form on the CD dirt.

Beware the eastern based 2YO fillies. I think they are a stronger group than those out west.

The biggest issue with this group is regardless of who wins.

You Lose.

Look at Half Bridled, Sweet Catomine, Storm Flag Flying and Folklore.

None of them ever made it back or were never the same. Storm flag Flying was respectable in the Distaff (second) but had a very off year considering how much talent she appeared to have.

None of the above even came close to racing at four.

hi Silver,

i think SSF beat Azeri in a grade 1 at age four.

i agree though, i won\'t be making any ky oaks futures wagers on these fillies.

with the BC now meaning so much, they are forced to do too much too soon.

hi Frank,

i wish i was there with you.

it\'s also my favorite turf course in NA.

...

we will know more about the east coast fillies after the race on saturday.

panty raid is out, octave could be solid, magical ride? could be anything, but needs to learn how to rate, desire to excel? not sure she gets the distance. the filly that won the spinaway is fast, but she is also a speedball (don\'t think she is going saturday though).

one of them could emerge as a real threat i guess.
