Title: Breeders Cup Talk- 2yo Colts
Post by: Sandreadis on September 17, 2006, 07:28:54 PM
Horse Greely has really impressed in all 3 starts @ DMR. Any of you Cali cappers think this horse looks like a BC Champion.Does Mandella plan to race between now and BC or go with 8 weeks rest? Any thoughts on this horse going 2 turns, or any info on the dam Chile Chatte(Storm Cat) appreciated. Are there any sites with BC future bets?It\'s never too soon to talk BC.Who do You like in the Juvenile?

Just do a Google of \"Chille Chatte\" + \"Storm Cat\" and you will find quite a bit of information.

I thought the best 2YO colt in California this summer was Principle Secret. He destroyed the field in the Best Pal after a stumbling start with a wide trip. He skipped the stake last day at Del Mar. Hopefully it was just the trainer being conservative in managing Principle Secret for a BC try rather than a problem with the horse.

Horse Greeley did look good in the Futurity and Mandella is always to be feared when he presses on with a youngster.

I\'d tend to favor Horse Greeley more on pedigree. The most impressive part of which is Carita Tostada.

A precocious 2YO stands a decent chance of getting 8.5 poles in the fall. They
both are that.

To give this thread some geographical balance, there is Circular Quay, undefeated winner of the Bashford Manor at Churchill and the Hopeful. I seem to remember CQ\'s dad, Thunder Gulch, winning a stake race at Churchill in the 90s.

Have not read if CQ will be trying Champagne (Bel October 14), but if he is victorious in that G1 event and MISSES the BC Juvie (ie syndication, injury, trying to avoid BC/Derby jinx) he is still probably Eclipse Award winning 2YO male.

For some reason I seem to be obsessing about these situations where runners ENHANCE their Eclipse chances by not contesting the BC (Silver Train).

Rich,

Watch for the \"new\" talk of NY.A 2yr old colt, No Biz Like Show Biz(Albert the Great out of a Storm Cat mare)This colt broke his maiden 1st time out at a mile in 1.35ish like breaking sticks. He is a monster physical specimen,Barclay( i\'d rather scratch than run) Tagg trains.

I would think that Jerry has had inquiries about this one and his TG fig will be interesting to see.

Sandreadis,

the mr greeley over storm cat cross screams sprinter/miler, and HG didn\'t have much left at the end of his last (home in :13.2), but ....

- it\'s mandella, and i\'m confident he will be able to throttle the speed a bit here and get him to stretch out.

- physically, the horse looks like he should get the longer distances.

- the chilean family traces back to nijinsky, buckpasser, and a few excellent mares.

have to take a positive view here.

....

circular quay has no knocks.

neutral on thunder gulch, and the female family is well balanced, with belong to me over shadeed and alydar.

has tabor, pletcher, and gomez in his corner, so he wins the battle of the humans.

only issue i guess is that the hopeful set up so well for him, and the late run looked so impressive, you aren\'t going to get any kind of odds on this horse in his next few, and with his running style, you always run the risk of serious traffic problems.
.....

the horse Mike mentions, Nobiz, looks like the real deal. i watched the pregame show with tagg the day he broke his maiden, and was intrigued enough to put down a pretty big bet at 7-2.

not sure what to think of albert the great on top, but i like the storm cat family on bottom. you have halo over herbager down there.

this guy is fast and looks like he wants to go longer.

keeping this giant colt out of a storm cat mare sound might be the toughest part.
.......

those three the most impressive i have seen so far.

Michael D., Thank You for an excellent summary of your  fav. 2yo colts. One thing  I will say about Horse Greeley and him coming home in 13 and 2 in the Futurity, HG was pretty soundly bumped at the start breaking 6th of 7 and to my eye probably spotted the field 3 lenghts. When 2YO speed horses have gate problems, spot the field several lenghts, remain relaxed, get themselves back into the race, then run their race, hold on gamely at the end and win by nearly 2 lenghts in Grade 2 company,I take notice. His closing fractions are not so troubling given these circumstances.
If this horse breaks cleanly, wins by 5 in 22 and 2 for 7F, I gotta think he\'s a co-favorite in the Juvenile. But he did not. Always looking for value.

have three contenders going in the futurity at bel.

#2 c p west intrigues the most.

$425g came home colt. a ton of stamina on the bottom, although mostly tilted towards turf.

not sure what to think of the lugging in down the stretch last. looks like bejarano had a tough time getting him to change leads. still, he was moving pretty quickly, so i\'m not that concerned.

#5 incriminate is obviously a fast horse. has the size and scope to get longer distances, although i\'m going to predict that his best race comes at 1m or shorter.

#7 king of the roxy ??? $8g yearling. runs pretty fast at Hol, pletcher gets him, and he runs like a BC winner. finished very well last out, looks like he can get 7f without a problem. gets top jock again.

no strong view on the race. let\'s see how the odds look.

Not sold on Incriminate.  His brother Value Plus looked awesome breaking maiden at Saratoga, but could never get a distance of ground.

the horse incriminate battled with last just got nailed at the wire at 1/2.

incriminate did what he was supposed to first out. he has seven sibs, five won at first asking.

not ready to put any of the futurity colts in the top three yet, but the top two are nice runners.

king of the roxy ran well. has nice tactical speed - with velazquez up he will have an advantage in big fields.

c p west might have a better future though. i think his best race will come at 1m to 1 1/8m. he should also take to the poly.

...

can\'t get too excited about any of the matron runners.

octave might stretch out at a later date, but it was tough watching those fillies struggle through the stretch.

from the Racing Post:

\"There has never been much doubt that George Washington is an exceptional athlete, and he had the excuse of serious muscle damage when beaten by Araafa in the Irish 2,000 Guineas. However, his temperament has threatened to get the better of him and in coming here on the back of a somewhat unsatisfactory return at Goodwood he had it all to prove again. To his credit he took the preliminaries really well - he wouldn\'t be saddled in the saddling box, but otherwise stayed calm - and in the race itself he travelled like a dream, held up in rear as stablemate River Tiber set a more sensible pace than he had at Goodwood.
As they straightened up he was clearly full of running, but still only fifth and in danger of getting boxed in. There was no need to panic though, and when Librettist started to weaken on his outside he was able to ease out and join Araafa. The issue was settled in strides, for he quickened impressively when he saw daylight, and without resort to the whip he dished out a comprehensive beating to his old rival and to most Europe\'s other top milers. He cocked his head a little to the left in front and looked inclined to edge a little to the left, but it was nothing really.
Mick Kinane said he has never ridden better, and while jockeys often get carried away in the aftermath of such important wins, George Washington clearly has to be right up there with the other outstanding colts he has ridden over the years. He must take a deal of beating with luck in runningin the Breeders\' Cup Mile, provided he copes with the travelling and the different conditions.\"

best ever ridden from Kinane? that\'s saying something.

have to keep an eye on two colts running east of elmont this w/e.

in the group 1 before the arc on sunday ...

battle paint - a very intriguing 2 yr colt by tale of the cat out of an arch mare, second dam andover way, dam of dynaformer. i know of no plans to come to the states, but joseph allen bred, and owns the colt, and he is bred for dirt, so you never know. 107 TF, 1:23 flat at Longchamp. let\'s keep an eye on this one.

holy roman emperor - don\'t know of any BC plans here either, but it is magnier, and this danehill colt is out of a secretariat mare, second dam a very classy northern dancer mare with more than enough dirt blood, so who knows ...

if either one of these guys dominate on sunday, watch out ...

Son of BC Mile winner Spinning World named Visonario will win the 2yo race at Longchamp.

BTW, 1:23 for about 7 furlongs at Longchamp sucks. Juveniles have run in 19 and change that can run.

Barry,

battle paint ran 1:23 and received a 107 timeform rating.

you\'ve been around the game long enough to know that for a two year old in his second start, those numbers don\'t suck.

but yes, well all know they can put up some fast numbers there. frankel\'s overbet runner in today\'s bel feature went 1:18 something there ....

thanks for the info though on the other colt, and good luck with your BC contenders. you have a few live ones, hope they run well.

regards,

michael

these two guys run one/two at longchamp ($53 exacta).

holy roman emperor was extremely impressive. he handled the good turf very well, sometimes a sign that a horse will take to dirt. not so sure with danehill on top, but again, there is some dirt breeding on bottom.

battle paint also ran very well. he is bred well for the dirt.

would love to see one or both of these colts give the BC a shot, although i have not heard of any plans out of the connections.

i\'d say h r e was a monster + seemed like he had more , very strong & sound . providing the horse comes out of the
longchamp race well , it probably would be only a traction problem that would stop him over here ...

excellent article.

http://drf.com/news/article/79479.html

now that horse greeley has gone down, i\'m going to look to this race for the BC winner.

circular quay still looks like a nice horse to me; the rather average looking performance on saturday could be blamed on the poly. still, i don\'t like taking low odds on a horse that has to come from out of the clouds, especially one that has yet to excel going two turns.
