have a $59 winner today...lost the DD, the pik 3 , and the pik 4....of course I did not bet him by himself...why do we love this game so much?
Shan
I was with you and had 3 runners in the last leg including a loose on the lead 2.
Your right about the multi race sucker...
NC Tony
By having it you meant you had it on a ticket? Chasing is so much different them being the one being chased. try a $1 win ticket on all your bets. keep a list . Over the span of a few weeks you might be surprised.
that one may turn into 20 then who knows.

yes, I know the mantra - \"bet a longsot to win if you like it that much\". I bought Crist\'s book when I was out in Del Mar and have been toying with his strategies, and I tiered 4 pik 4 tickets with the 6 in the second, or B, slot...3 live ones - nothing to show for it.
Shanny,
Its one of my biggest downfalls too. Especially when I have a multi race already live and I don\'t bet to win in leg 2.
We all do whats with-in our bank roll and we do the best we can with it . I realize were talking about alot of money in the p-3/4 pools on the big days and a pro-play is often called for in those situations ( to hit a Big home run ) , but as a rule of thumb - interests might also be well served by use of multi race wagers as a way to cope with very short or prohibrative prices .
I\'ve done the same thing before myself in p-3\'s etc - my only solace is that at least I\'m seeing the right things when handicapping and I\'m still in the game ...
My personal rule is that if a horse is 4-1 or more and I like his chances to win, I must put a win bet on him.
Of course, there\'s a difference between liking a horse to win and having him as your D selection in leg X of a pick four ticket.
Such is the nature of the multi-race wager...
While it is frustrating when you don\'t hit it, when you do, the payoffs are huge when the favorites are not on the ticket.
tough beat shanahan, but stick with the pk3\'s and pk4\'s when possible.
playing four races with one takeout is a huge advantage.
in yesterday\'s pk4 with your longshot, you got odds of 873-1 with a four race win parlay.
the pk4 paid $24,511.
win less often, but a heck of a lot more in the long run.
I have a friend who regularly hits big Pick 4s and he has pretty much detached himself from all other wagers except win bets and exactas.
I really think it helps his psychology of gambling to not be worrying about what he missed and just concentrate on the Pick 4.
And like you guys said, the big hits on the Pick 4 make up for the misses (hopefully!).

good point Marcus about using favs in pk3 & pk4 pools.
i know a lot of people who make even money shots 75% likely to win, and piss away money chasing exactas or tri\'s they don\'t really like.
if you make an even money shot a 75% winner and he wins, you have outperformed the board, and you need to take advantage of that. no better way to do it than by singling the horse in a pk4.
Shanahan did right - at 24k for the winning ticket , that kind of horse is an insurance policy - that\'s the important thing , and at those prices you could take to stand some dilution ...
