Title: What are the characteristics of a winning player?
Post by: 1st time lasix on August 31, 2006, 11:59:34 AM
On this forum....we know players that are successful. Why is one player a good handicapper but yet a track loser? Why is one player less of diligent handicapper but still manages to win?    It seams to me that a winning player must properly select his spots, manage his bankroll effectively, be diciplined with his observations/note taking, be \"even-keeled\" emotionally, be flexible with his wagering approach and always vigilant in improving his handicapping abilities. {Nothing seems to work all the time ....and something seems to work part of the time.}

Ive thought about of this question alot and how to make money in time  and heres what comes to my mind....  I really feel in order be a winning gambler in general that the same wager has to be placed consistently... what i mean is that if we do a win bet, keep ALL the win bets at lets say $50 for example... if u do a pick 3..  do a $1 ticket and spend the same amount each time (lets say 3x3x3 = $27)... keep EVERYTHING CONSISTENT (from bankroll each day to wagers placed)... the reason i say this is an example i will give lets say on football betting... u can win 100 games in a row at $100 a game for a $10000 profit..but if that 101 time u wager 15000 and lose..  u have won 100 of 101 times and are down $5000...  on horses, IMO even though the oddds are different on each horse,  if we can control and be consistent with the amount taken out of pocket, then each player can see if they are a success in the longterm at the racetrack .. im not sayin u cant make any money any other way but in any type of gambling thats the only way i see as making money over time unless someone were to hit some huge superfecta or trifecta and could use the  profit off the hit to carry then in time....  u guys see what im saying with all this.. what do u all think?

It all makes sense what both of you are saying - keep to your relative comfort zone , use level increments and stay the course with your daily plays and angles . Be patient , don\'t force the issue -  pass on races you don\'t like and if can\'t get your price - so not to get knocked out and miss out on a potentially good betting card ( or race ) the next day .
