You know, there are bulletin board programs which enable the host to approve all posts before they\'re posted. That could be a good idea here.
Also, there are bulletin board programs which enable you to split the discussion among specific topic headings. That would be even better. If you would use that sort of thing you could have a bitching and harrassing topic for all of the stuff which is of no interest to those of us who are interested in a real discussion of handicapping via thorograph and another topic which would include actual discussion of handicapping issues.
Quite frankly, I enjoy using thorograph and believe there might actually be a tidbit of information in the dozens of posts that I\'ve tried to work my way through lately. However, I simply have not the time or inclination to become involved in this endless discussion of whether rag or tg is better. I\'m sold in TG and would prefer to spend my time applying this proven approach than read all of this other stuff. If you would incorporate a bb format which split the discussion so that those of us who simply wanted to apply TG in our handicapping could ignore all of the other stuff this whole web site would be much more valuable.
I refer you to http://www.infopop.com/ for a really nice program which would represent a vast improvement on your current site.
Anyway, thats 2 cents from a long time TG user.
Thanks for the comments and the software suggestion. I picked this software, after testing about 6 others, and it has all the capabilities you mentioned. There are administrative problems when every message needs to be approved. People tend to want instant gratification and don\'t want to wait even a little bit of time to see their post.
The splitting the board into different topics is easy enough, but I\'ve found over the years that it\'s difficult to keep \'on topic\' and posts get criss-crossed.
Maybe for special events (Derby, BC, Saratoga meet) we can experiment.
Thanks again for the comments.
JB,
Is this now officially stalking? Can you get a restraining order against him? Can you sue him for using your name and posting negative comments about him? Do you maybe think he is in love with you and is acting the Glenn Close part of the spurned lover? Lock-up your pet rabbit now!
You\'re probably right about the cross posting - especially from folks who are committed to making this bb meaningless as a handicapping tool.
How about a \"member\'s only\" section which would be password protected and allow you to keep all of the nasty people out?
Or perhaps, upon purchasing the sheets on-line, the user would be given entry to a forum which could include a discussion of that day\'s races. That way posters could discuss numbers without fear of disclosing anything to the \"non-paying\". At least the posters would have paid for the privilege of posting on that particular day.
Its just that I do know of at least one new user who tried to discuss handicapping here, was totally ignored with all of the diatribe going on and decided to go elsewhere. I guess the raggies won in that case, but it would be nice to apply some approach which would make this bb worthwhile.
amen amen
I think everything should be allowed. Not that Mr. Damgaard doesn\'t have his points. I would say Supe and others of his ilk were encouraged to continue by replies from TG (and myself and others) that were not always necessary. Ignoring (or briefly replying and then deleting) some of these things might have been as good a strategy as some of these technical fixes. If someone continuously posts along these lines, delete their posts. The board is private property. I personally would not like additional barriers to entry. HP
I would be in favor of a \"members only\" board or a moderated board (either instead of or in addition to what\'s here). I typically don\'t read either this or the Rag board because there\'s so much crap posted by folks who just want to be irritating.
You could certainly get a list of approved members by looking at who buys the TG on line. Also, it seems there\'s a relatively small population of posters.
