Title: NOT-- One Man's Opinion
Post by: richiebee on August 03, 2006, 06:05:25 PM
IMO, here are the things that this \"Study\" has NOT been:

1) Well thought out;
2) Necessary;
3) Well timed (why stage a distraction during what is for most of us the best part of the racing season?);
4) Scientific;
5) Interesting (the people who seem most interested are the contingent on the other board who would rather see a TG failure than enjoy their own success).

Jerry, most of your broadsides directed at the SS Ragozin seem to be based on your belief that the Rag gang has become somehow lax in their figure  making acumen, that there are gaps in the Rag methodology. Why not let the Rag users discover this on their own, at their own expense?

Instigators J-66 and JJ. Don\'t know if you were the actual principals in this \"Study\", but it was first mentioned in September of 05 and you guys had plenty of time to do better than this.

Has anyone played McGregor Links up at Saratoga?

Richie-

I had my doubts going in, more initially the significance of the number of figures being used. But I was not joking before the contest as the challenges that faced, using the \"Extreme day at Calder\" as an example, and deviations better be thought out before the SPA meet. Weather is always an issue at some point during the meet, as we all know, and that it could \"REAK\" havoc during any card during the meet. The rules of engagement should be in place up front or it will kill this thing, knowing the players involved here.

Anyway your remarks about the study kind of reminds me of the Three Stooges sceene where Moe says to Curley thinking he has found a moment of brilliance \" Eureka\" - Curly\'s reply back to MOE \" Eureka? What do you mean I Stink!!\"

I say let it die a graceful death.

Learned to play at McGregor. This was back in the early 80\'s, though. Back then it was an actual links style course, no water, some sort of heinous rough extending out 100-150 yards off the tees. It wasn\'t much fun playing out of that straw, so I learned to hit the ball off the tee pretty quickly. (Unfortunately, I never learned to putt.) They had the State Amateur there in 1982, I believe. Heard they\'ve built a lot of housing all around it, so it may have lost some of its former charm, but if it\'s anything like it used to be it\'s probably worth playing.

Thanks STB.

Also am set up to play the course in the Saratoga Spa State Park for first time.

Looking forward to a trip upstate next Wednesday-- two mornings of golf, two nights of drinking, and three afternoons of racing.

Unless of course it rains, in which case it will (hopefully not) turn in to a 3 day drunk (think Jack Nicholson in the \"Last Detail\")

Hey Guys

If anyone wants to get together quickly before the races start at the carolina barbeque, lets do it, I\'ll have a bunch of beers in the cooler, what say 11:30 -12, on thursday the 10th.

RICH:

    Did not mean to ignore your invitation to quaff mass quantities at the Carolina Cue prior to Thursday\'s races. Unfortunately on Thursday I have a late tee time and will probably miss the first couple of races.

    On Weds, Thurs and Fri I plan to be stationed near the Big Red Spring. Look for a pile of empty beer bottles (imports and microbrews). I usually sit as close as I can to the gate in the back fence where the ambulance is stationed. That way, when I keel over and die in the Saratoga backyard (my life\'s ambition) my passing will create only a minimal disturbance to the racegoing public.

You are clearly in excellent form. If you was a horse, I\'d bet ya!
