Title: Spa.......Graveyard of favorites?
Post by: 1st time lasix on July 25, 2006, 08:52:24 AM
Litfin recently wrote about the quantity of odds on chaulk winners the last couple years at the Spa. His numbers suggest that it is extemely difficult to beat the public there. Of course each particular race at the meet is unique....but favorites winning near 40% is formidable. Maybe the nickname should be \"Chaulkyard of favorites\"

One interesting \"X Factor\" this year at Saratoga is the talented apprentice Julian Leparoux, who should have the 5 pound allowance through the end of the Spa meet.

I can not remember the last time a bug rider came into a Saratoga meet with a decent chance to be among the leading riders; the \"bug\" has been a poor play at the Spa in recent years.

Looking at the opening day card, I do not see any real short prices except for the 2nd race. With a very strong jockey colony and many good outfits showing up, it could be a formidable task to beat the SPA meet.

Richiebee---

Interesting you mention that. Look at the Thoro-sheets for the 6.5f race tomorrow. SPANISH CHESTNUT gets the benefit of what you are talking about.

Good Luck,
Joe B.

It\'s the Grave Yard of Favorites in Stakes Races...not overnights.
