Title: Is it the weather...?
Post by: Delmar Deb on June 10, 2006, 08:49:27 PM
You have to go back to June 3rd to find a winner from the Todd Pletcher or Rick Dutrow barn at Belmont.  On that day, Pletcher was 2 for 2 (wins) and both Dick Dutrow and Tony \"Virtual\" Dutrow had a winner each.  Since that time, only Tony Dutrow has added another winner.

Rick Dutrow has one 3rd place finish and Pletcher has one 2nd, three 3rd, three 4th, and two 9th place finishes since last Saturday.  The overall stats for Todd for the past week are shown below:

June 3 - 10:  Pletcher - 12 2-1-3

I actually looked this up last night and thought it was highly unusual that neither Pletcher or Dutrow had done anything in the previous 4 days.  I was very leary about today, particularly as there were not any Grade 3 races which seem to be a mainstay of the Pletcher/Dutrow/Romans program.

What surprised me most was not that their horses lost, but that their stables were so depleted for Belmont Day.  Maybe they shot their wad at Churchill or on Memorial Day...or the rain set them back.

Any ideas?

Deb,

Trickey Rickey is never to be underestimated, he has cooled before only to return with a string of winners.Strong group with Wall street money looking to buy horses for the trickster to train.

Re Todd Pletcher, I can tell that the guy who sits on most of his horses in the morning thinks the barns two yr olds will dominate the stakes now thru the SPA meet.

Short of that, Allday is waiting for fresh juice.

I wanted to wait until after the 2nd race at Belmont before I responded to you...and it\'s obvious now why I waited!

Thanks to Bris and TG stats regarding debut winners for trainers and pedigrees; the stable and the fact that the horse worked and Monmouth and came to Belmont to run - Baby Bird stood out as a huge overlay at 10-1.

I learned more about handicapping in Maryland in the late 70\'s and early 80\'s from the Big Three than anywhere else with the exception of Florida for babies.  The son has talent inherited from a tremendous \"sire\", and he does like to win at a price which is also something his father enjoyed...particularly on his fall invasions of NY!
