Title: Epsom Derby
Post by: richiebee on June 03, 2006, 07:47:29 AM
Anybody look at the Epsom Derby today?

Can you say, after all these years, Northern Dancer?

Of the 18 entries, 5 are sons of Sadler\'s Wells, by ND. 3 are sons of Montjeu, himself by Sadlers Wells. 2 are by Danehill, son of Danzig, son of ND. Galileo, another son of Sadler\'s Wells, has one runner in the race.

Aidan Obrien\'s Horatio Nelson, by Danehill out of a Sadler\'s Wells mare in a mating that would make NASCAR fans happy, looked to have been the fastest of these as a 2YO, but has never been asked to go further than a mile. Currently between 3-4/1 offshore

English bred, French raced Visindar has been dominant in 3 lifetime starts for Fabre/Soumillon. Favored offshore.

Another Obrien trainee, Septimus (Sadler\'s Wells), earned the highest Timeform # in the race in his last start, a victory in the 1 1/4 mile Dante Stakes, run 2 weeks ago. About 8/1 offshore.

Any ideas?

Sir Percy (Mark of Esteem) the winner.

Less than one minute to post, TVG reports that Horatio Nelson was being looked at by track vet and possibly would be scratched. They let him run, and he broke down with about a furlong to go

Same constellation of injury as Barbaro, but front leg.
