Seemed to be confusion regarding how his line looked from your comments in the Seminar. I thought it was pretty simple, looked quite a bit like Thunder Gulch. I had him everywhere on my tickets but no Barbaro so it was to no avail.
Please elaborate.
Have\'t heard of any confusion, but the big question was what to make of the Kenneland race. Horses don\'t bounce as much as they did in 95, and TT had bounced only 2 points off two efforts, more acceptable than a big bounce off one effort. If you took into account that so many hate Keeneland, the pattern looked better.
Other things to consider were the early developing pedigree, and that he was just one of many around the 1 level-- meaning that he (like the winner) needed a new top. I took a small position on him at 50-1 about a week out, and used him in exotics, same as I did 5 others.
I don\'t know if Poly track is the answer, but it will be better than what\'s been at Keeneland for the last 4 or 5 years. As I said in my comments to chuckles pre-race, the race was a complete throwout. Races just look different there than everywhere else. If they ran the Derby at Keeneland, when the winner crossed the finish line you\'d still have horses on the turn. I honestly believe they could run a whole meet there without a photo finish camera on the dirt.
Maybe the previous race bounce or X was much more severe than Thunder Gulch but there were similarities nonetheless.
The similarities with Thunder Gulch were in my mind as I was punching a big fat win ticket on Bluegrass Cat. The similarities with Invisible Ink were more obvious a bit later as I was cashing my pitifully modest place bet.
While filing out of Belmont with the faithful, the anticipation of a potential bounce candidate at 1-2 in the Preakness couldn\'t even put a dent in my annual postpartum depression. I conceived yet another derby loser, this year with a dream trip & a solid run. These are the times when I most appreciate the schnauzer-like unconditional devotion of my girlfriend, who has no concept of derby fever or the short-sighted wagering strategy I applied on the race. When we reached the car it hit me just what the moment called for; I drove straight to Bed Bath & Beyond, disgustingly dropped the proceeds on her lap and told her to go to town, hoping at least one of us gets some satisfaction from the events of the day.
You\'re not alone. Although AP WARRIOR (Yikes!!!!) was my play and took down 80% of my bankroll, I also recalled the similarities of Pletcher & INVISIBLE INK not to mention simply ignoring anything that happens at Keenland.
So what do i do??...I make savor plays ($20 exacta boxes) keying BGC with APW, SNS, BD, and B&J....What, no BARBARO. Of course not. And,as NY POST sportswriter Steve Serby used to say....\"that\'s why they call me Mr. Loser.\"
Good Luck,
Joe B.
Flush-- I\'m guessing your girlfriend doesn\'t come to this site, where she could read \"schnauzer-like\". On a more serious note, you should read the betting strategy stuff in the archives section-- if you like a bomb and it runs second, you should come out better than okay.
SC-- Of course there were similarities. I was just pointing out the differences. No two situations are identical.
>No two situations are identical.
So should I remember that the next time I see a familiar pattern and prepare to take the rubberband off.
Why isn\'t Pletcher running the horse back in the Preakness. A Storm Cat in the Belmont doesn\'t seem like the proper spot and the horse seemed to wake up on Derby Day. Pletcher hasn\'t won a Triple Crown race yet and will not if he doesn\'t start taking chances.
Who wins if Barbaro takes a big Fupeg bounce. Or even more recent a Sweetnorthernsaint bounce. Not Bluegrass Cat.
Pletcher always wants spacing between races.
I think the mistake he\'s making is running Sunriver in the Peter Pan.That one is poised for a jump up race. Why waste it in the Peter Pan and then have to come back two weeks later in the Belmont? He did the same thing with Purge who was huge in the Pan and in the toilet two weeks later in the Belmont.
Take a shot in the Preakness with Sunriver.There\'s enough speed to help his trip.Even if Barbaro doesn\'t bounce enough to get beat-second money isn\'t bad,and third money is about the same as winning the Peter Pan.
Bluegrass Cat might get some help on the bottom with Ap Indy.I think they\'re doing the right thing waiting for the Belmont.
A friend of mine had $25 exacta boxes with Barbaro and 10 other horses, but none with Bluegrass Cat.--Jett
