Title: Preakness
Post by: Michael D. on May 06, 2006, 06:10:34 PM
Hats off to Barbaro. Nothing phony about that victory in my opinion.

Here\'s two interesting running lines from today\'s race:

BROTHER DEREK worked his way in six wide by the first turn, moved out wider when the field bunched nearing the end of the backstretch where he was steadied twice, fanned out nine abreast when making a run into the upper stretch, but came up empty while finishing evenly with JAZIL for fourth.

SWEETNORTHERNSAINT, steadied when bumped at the start by A.P. WARRIOR and forced out on PRIVATE VOW, was steadied again under the wire the first time in tight quarters, worked his way between foes around the first turn, angled inside on the backstretch, boldly came through close quarters along the rail at the five-sixteenths pole, but faltered when straightened for the drive.

I would give these two guys another shot in the Preakness. They both have the preferred running style. I would imagine Baffert sends in one or two as well. I also read that Bernardini might be joining the fray.

Barbaro is the deserving favorite, but the Preakness will still be an interesting race.

Good point about Brother Derek. He showed real courage in that loss.

The race is over and as usual nobody using TG cashed. I thin davex liked the winner alot.Uncle Buck is right this is the lottery now there is no way figs apply to this race anymore because of the affects and unknown factors. CTC you wouldn\'t shut your mouth at gun point, you continue to BLAB about nothing. Go for a ride or walk or the closest bridge. Get my point!!!! You raving idiot.

Cong,

What was wrong with Barbaro\'s TG pattern going in,it was very solid. If BGC does not show up yesterday, they would still be cashing my tickets.

Nice catch. That and a 20 horse field.

I have heard the term \"Lottery\" used a few times regarding this race. How appropriate. Race tracks want to \"fix\" their product, and so every one cries \"we need slots....\"

It should be clear by now which direction horse racing is headed.

Churchill does have a new starter, but I read that Churchill feared that he didn\'t have enough experience with large fields, and brought out ex NYRA starter Richard Duncan to handle the Derby gate. I read this in NY Post.

I was surprised that Ex Caelis, who flipped out (and nearly flipped over) in the gate before the Oaks, was not backed out for veterinary inspection.

richiebee, you are correct about the starter. The new starter, Scott Jordan, had his crew load the horses but Duncan ( Bob ? ) pushed the button for the start.

I would have thought they would have at least backed Ex Caelis out of the gate to give her a look over before letting her run. She was vertical in the air and the rider just slid down her backside.

guess at the odds?

Barbaro - 7/5
Bro Derek - 4/1
SNS - 5/1
Bernardini - 7/1
Lawyer Ron - 8/1
Sunriver - 15/1
Like Now - 20/1
Jazil - 20/1

this won\'t be a bad betting race.
.....

BD gets another excuse - lost his front right shoe

Barbaro 3/5

you know dave, that\'s what i originally thought. but if all of the aforementioned horses go, there are just too many options.

3/5 is more likely in the Belmont, win or lose in two weeks.
