I know this is kind of off topic, but I\'m in Vegas and was wondering where you guys would suggest playing. Also, what would be the best time to get to a specific racebook to get a seat. Thanks.....
P Dub,
The Hilton(convention site) had a very nice race book when I went in 2004.During the week I was getting there at 9:30 Am local time. Seats were no problem.
Two years ago I spent the day at the Mandlay Bay\'s sportsbook which is nice but fills up quickly beacuse of it\'s size. I suggest you try and get a seat as early as possible since many of the sportbooks are rather small (espically Palms, NYNY, Flamingo).
I hear the Sports book at the new Winn Hotel is very nice. I have not been there personally but that\'s what I\'ve been told by those that should know.
NC Tony
Wynn is nice and good sized. Just down the hall from the poker room and easy to get to. Park on the second level of the north garage right off the strip if you\'re driving. You\'ll avoid all the casino crap. Only \"classless\" thing is you have to get \"drink tickets\" from the teller to give the waitress if you plan on imbibing.
I spent 2004 at Bally\'s/Paris and paid something like $40 for a seat in their ballroom. It was set up with all the food and drink you could polish off, a big screen TV plus other monitors around the room. A good number of tellers were there and never had to wait in line for anything. Wasn\'t at all crowded, easily my best Derby Day experience.
Thanks for taking the time guys.
There is only one place for racing in Vegas. Boulder Station is by far the best.....The new Red Rock is a joke,as is the Hilton. Last year the best Derby promo was from the Hard Rock, but if you go there watch your tickets!!!!!
The Hilton \"Superbook\" as they call it is indeed the king\'s palace when it comes to horseplayers.
I go every year for the SEMA convention and always walk over to the SB and spend my lunch hour in there.
It\'s quite a nice place and the service is always good...
It sucks.......The sports book that is.
I was playing roulette at Hard Rock a few years ago and some drunk English soccer team was at the table with me. As the ball is just about to drop, this hooligan swipes the whole table clean. I had $300 on black and it came black #22. The pit boss called off the spin. That dude was lucky he had 5 buddies with him...
Hard Rock is a total joke except for scouting chicks at the Pink Taco Restaurant
I went to the Hilton Friday and wasn\'t impressed. Kind of dirty feeling and lots of locals. Decent deli though. Saturday tried the Wynn hotel and was impressed, although 18 bucks for a Reuben-potato salad-soda didn\'t go over very well.
Got there early and got a nice seat in the non-smoking area with a monitor and headphones. Not quite enough Big Screens but a minor annoyance. Very accommodating staff, plenty of free drink coupons, and attractive waitresses. I played Hawthorne, both California tracks, and the 2 late turf races from Calder. Played too many races but these were the highlights and lowlights:
-Gigawatts in the Calder 9th was my best score. Keyed the 4,7(Springhouse,Old Forester) up and down with Gigawatts, Icy Atlantic, and Woodlander in the Tri for a nice hit. Unfortunately didn\'t do the same with the Super as I keyed the 4,7 in top 2 spots only. Absolutely retarded. Who needs 2 grand anyways.
-Hit Greedy Way in Hollywood 4th (16 bucks) and had a $10 tri ticket home free in deep stretch with the first 2 placings safe. The 2 horses running 3rd and 4th were the 2 I played in the Show spot and it looked like a done deal. Here comes SOLIS from out of the clouds to nail me by a nose for the show. Just 1 more reason to hate that guy. Cost me about 800 bucks.
-Charmo paid a very fair 7.60 today.
-Nice analysis on the ROTW as Stockholder couldn\'t quite get up at 9-1. Had a nice WP bet on him with a saver exacta with the winner.
A very fun day with too many wagers made made but kept above water with a couple nice scores. TGJB, your product is worth every penny and I feel lost without it. I have never made figures and won\'t pretend to know how. All I know is that your product is first rate and makes this game a lot more enjoyable, which as a purely recreational player is what I am looking for. I just don\'t have the time anymore to spend hours poring over a form and your product helps narrow the contenders quickly.
Ended the evening with the Sting concert at the Mandalay Bay. The guy still has it, sounds as good as ever and played a lot of the old Police stuff. Not a very long set (about 70 minutes with a 15 minute encore) but very enjoyable.
