Title: Sunriver, Derby longshot?
Post by: Sandreadis on April 18, 2006, 08:59:45 AM
Sunriver checks going into first turn before going 4 wide, runs 6 wide on the back side, runs 4-5 wide on the second turn of a speed biased track. Rallys to get 3rd, closing ground on Barbaro in the final sixteenth. Watch the FD video. Does anyone know how Sunriver\'s fig compared to Barbaro\'s in this race? This looks like a derby horse to me. Ashado got better with age. This horse has (5) 1 1/8 races under his belt. Will $100,000 in graded earnings get this colt in? Thoughts

no 100k won\'t do it, needs about 130-150k. He needs to run sat. He\'s 24th on the list.

As I may have previously stated, I was sort of hoping the Blue Grass result, and its effect on the graded earnings standings, would force Pletcher to run Sunriver in the Lexington. If he ran a new top in the Florida Derby and he paired that in the Lexington (admittedly that\'s a lot of ifs) his line would look interesting, to my relatively inexperienced eyes, a bit similiar to War Emblem\'s. On paper, three weeks out, this has the potential to be one of those pace meltdown Derbies, which would help. Agree that he looks interesting.

Sunriver is a hard knocking colt that looks like he\'ll run forever.
Runs his heart out and stll doesn\'t get his picture taken.
Has GREAT jock and if he gets in....well the back end of exotics(w/out seeing the sheets)is where I see him.
Thanks for bringing him to my attention.

Sunriver is now sitting #22 with Discreet, Samurai and Like Now (Preakness) all passing Derby...

Flashy Bull is #21 and NOT running Lex... If they don\'t get in, they\'ll go to PIM. Terry Finley (West Point) will be on the air with us tonight at 7:45pm to discus. Andy Serling and Ray Paulick earlier in the show...

4:45-8:00pm tonight with soccer pushing us back 45 minutes..

I have closely watched this one\'s last two efforts. Both his allowance win (I forget the date) and his FLA Derby races were efforts in which I would say he \"exerted\" himself to the max. I think this one is a bounce candidate...JMHO
