Can anyone tell me why Solis refuses to let Brother Derek gallop out after his races? He did it again yesterday. OK, he was celebrating before the finish (reminds me of last year\'s Wood with that Zito monster, Bellamy), but, then, did anyone see the gallop out? He shuts him right down, AP and the Baffert horse galloped out past him before the turn? Is this by choice? Is the horse really a mile to mile and an eigth horse and he\'s done? Was he saving energy for the Derby? No one can doubt how good Brother Derek looked, smooth, relaxed, efficient and, quite frankly, in a different Universe than his rivals, no question, but why not let him gallop out another 1/8? Am I just stupid or am I missing something???

Brother Derek will be stepping up in the Derby and will not have things his own way. Yesterday his fractions were not fast aligned with a comparison to the Wood. As a matter of fact the Hollywood Turf horses spanked Brother Derek comparatively. He\'s a good horse. But will he be a good horse under pressure going 10 marks? Theres reasons to think he will be severely tested as the Derby Favorite. He would be a good horse to beat. Tell the board hes your boy. Don\'t be shy.

Only half of my question was if I were stupid or not, the other half was related to the race.
I was seeking an opinion from any other astute horsepeople out there -- their take on the gallop out? Isn\'t that the purpose of this messege board? If you don\'t think gallop-outs are important, you must go by just numbers when you handicap, so you can ignore my posts from here on, for they will not be relevant, especially when trying to predict something a horse has never done before, like run a mile and a quarter on derby day.
However, again, I was wondering why would someone not want their horse to gallop out to the seven furlong pole, at least, and especially if the race was fairly easy for him? I was not questioning the handling of the horse, though in my mind, he ran only one truly impressive race, earlier in the year, beating Stevie Wonderboy. In fact, I thought he\'d have a difficult time ever running back to that level of performance, and I bet against him in his subsequent races; perhaps the \"stupid\" label applies quite fittingly after all. I\'ll likely keep my streak of betting against him going on derby day, though I wish his connections all the best.
With all the pre-finish-line celebrating from Solis, I wonder just was \"this\" Brother Derek\'s Derby?

Fair enough question to me, speaking of gallops out, how about that Jazil at the finish and the gallop out. The exacta was nice too.
You do know that there has been at least one betting system which used the times from galloping out as a key factor for the horse\'s next race.
The problem with Jazil\'s gallop out was that it looks better than it was because the other two were decelerating so quickly. The real running in the Wood was done in the first 6 furlongs and any \"big gains\" late were more an optical illusion than anything.
Two more optical jumps and he\'d won......
