This is what your ROTW write-up for WITH A CITY should have said.
\" Trainer is red hot at uncharacteristic 27% for the meet. Uses the \'ol Oscar Barrera Blinkers On as explanation to the stewards for drastic form reversal. Although 7 Thorograph points slower than fastest horses in here, LIKELY improvement expected at a price.\"
PS: I\'m getting sick of this crap.
Good Luck,
Joe B.
All of the favorites tried for the lead. Pace was fast and What a City picked up the pieces.
tmon,
Yous is a brief but perfect explanation of what happened in the Lanes End. I\'m always amazed how otherwise rational handicappers can\'t understand that a slow track not only influences the final time but the pace as well. They look at an raw pace figure like 1:11 and change and declare the pace was slow without considering that the pace split has to be considered in relation to the even slower final time.
Bob
pattern wasn\'t so bad. \"12.5\" and \"10.5\" to finish out his 2 yr old campaign (after a bunch of bad trips). \"10.5\" first out \'06 was too slow, but he bled badly. he\'s a half to the daddy, who surprised more than a few by winning the grade 2 super derby first time routing. his page looks a bit like charismatic\'s did at this time \'99 (was the trainer involved in that derby victory?)
beyer made it slow.
i\'d race him once more before the derby, but who\'s to doubt a guy who just bought this animal for $150g, and made an additional $27g betting on the race.

Already took a quick look at the subject Turfway card and to my eye the two Stakes races were slowish, not factoring the wides. Problem is, Wide may have been the place to be. If it was maybe High Cotton\'s race was a bit better than it seems. There was one fast raw race time by 3YO\'s smack dab in the middle of the card. If I was looking for a possible standout it would be Skeleton Crew or Final Copy. Gut impression is that you don\'t have to worry about any Derby horses coming from the Rushaway or Lane\'s End. But thats not atypical, Turfway doesnt showcase many Derby stars. It would be highly ironic if this was one of the years it did. Brass Hat noted.
Michael D,
Your point is well taken on that horse. It\'s sheet does look a lot like Chrismatic and that Maker was a Lukas assistant at that time. And the fact that The Daddy is half brother also did not go unoticed. In fact Kasept on this board noted that the horse began to run on well very late in his prior race despite bleeding. His theory is that horses that don\'t run (or take to the track) early first time on Polytrack but then begin to run on late, start to acclimaye with the surface late in the race, always run much better the second time. A very good playback next time out for Turfway. And the fact that he paired his two year old top despite bleeding you could have predicted a significant improvement (3 up to 5 points even) and at 48-1 was an overlay when it should have been 20-1 or there abouts.
All the favotites ran early and some didn\'t take to Polytrack. Was one of only two horses running at the end of that race.
