Title: Thanks for the Memories
Post by: dpatent on June 11, 2002, 09:15:44 PM
Without resorting to any lame family-related excuses, I am respectfully bowing out of the various TG/Rags posts.

Thanks, you\'ve been a great audience.  I wish Alydar et al. no hard feelings.

I\'ll be back in July to discuss handicapping.  Maybe we can all look at sheets for the same track for the 13th and 14th and post some picks for another contest.

Caio!

I\'ll try and make it for that one.

remind me at Sheets, if I\'m not around here that week.

Supe, July 13 and 14th. There\'s something called a calendar. Borrow a pen. Circle the dates. A circle is a round thing you can draw around the number in the middle of the boxes on the calendar. The two numbers you are looking for are 13 and 14. HP

If you decide to participate in something like this again, given your post-race posts, I would like to see you put up some money. Beating you twice won\'t be good enough. HP

HP,

If I\'m around, I\'ll throw up my picks.
Given some of the stuff I\'ve read about
this whole thing, it looks like
the gentlemens contest did more harm than good.

By the way, I was at BEL on BELMONT day,
that place was rockin\', 105,000 showed up
and the facility handled it quite well.

Nunzio,

How\'s it going. I wouldn\'t say the contest did ME more harm than good. Overall I would rate it a positive, especially when compared to some of the other stuff that goes on here. There were actual handicapping decisions made, and I definitely got something out of it. A lot of these arguments going on now have very little to do with the contest and more to do with stuff that was going on before, and this would probably be the case even if there was no contest.

I was at Belmont and I really enjoyed it. I was lucky enough to get there early and got a good parking spot and I got right out afterwards too. Nice crowd, and a lot of friendly people.

As for how Belmont handled it, where I was (1st level Clubhouse), you had to get on line right after a race to bet on the next one, and even then you could get shut out (I did once). I checked out some other spots and they were just as bad if not worse.

I would imagine the handle would have been bigger if they had staffed every window in the joint. I saw quite a few empty ones. Overall I give them a passing grade, as I had no problem getting beer. HP

HP,

A buddy of mine got us two seats about 30 yards before the wire on the 2nd floor,
right next to where Nial O\'callahan
was sitting (Wiesmans Ferry).  The lines weren\'t bad at all there.  I hoisted a few cold ones myself especially after BABAE
& GIGISTAR won.

I got out of there right after the BELMONT
and if the last race on the day was earlier in the card, I probably would have bet the winner that was put up on a DQ who paid
53.00 to win.  I\'m not complaining too much,
I won a few bucks and the atmosphere was
wild !

I used Toner\'s horse in that race - (Trobien?) the one that got taken down. Fit with the rest of my day, which included Pleasant County breaking down (LOVED her at 8-1), leaving me with nothing but the favorite (Ellie\'s Moment - which I \'used lightly in exotics\') hooked up to the winner (Too Scarlet), who was all over my exotic tickets. 1) Just so we\'re clear on this, I didn\'t delete you. A while back we deleted a sexist post, and it somehow caused some other deletions and screwed up the indexing. But that\'s it.

2) Out of respect for Alydar, I\'m not going to \"hit you as you go out the door\". Which, considering it means leaving your last few posts unanswered, might put me in the hospital.
