Title: Saline and Chickens
Post by: Silver Charm on February 15, 2006, 10:34:41 AM
Interesting column in today\'s Louisville Courier Journal regarding the committed absence of one Ms. Pamela Anderson at this years Ky Derby. The strange thing is I\'m sure anyone was asking her to come back.

Ms. Anderson who has become a recent outspoken advocate against the Sport of Kings is also refusing to sit down at any dinner table serving chicken. Which is fine with me because it means there is more for the rest of us.

While advocating frequent drug use, over the top plastic surgery and homemade porn Ms Anderson has turned into a modern day version of Joan Collins to keep her fledging career in the news. Having her be your spokesperson is like having Dick Cheney speak out against Gun Control.

Considering this story and numerous others hopefully a sulking Kid Rock can finally say good riddance.

SC:

Thanks for posting the article. The last line of the article notes that KFC \"is committed to the humane treatment of chickens\".

In \"The Birds\", Hitchcock\'s avian menace has attacked 2 or 3 times, and the townspeople are hunkered down in a local restaurant trying to figure out why the once benign birds have turned on them. One distraught townie says \"What have we ever done to them?\" Almost simultaneously, a waitress calls back to the cook for a chicken sandwich.

The conditions at some of places at the food cultivating/ processing end are  bad , it was explained to me once that , as part of a court ruling or settlement from litigation against  Kentucky Fried Chicken , Colonel Sanders is prohibited from using the word \"chicken\" , thus KFC . . .

Pamela Anderson has long been a spokesceleb for PETA, an extremist animal rights organization with domestic AR terrorist organization ties (ALF is the biggest)

PETA has not yet attacked the TB and harness racing industries in a concerted or significant way.

...it was explained to me once that, as part of a court ruling or settlement from litigation against Kentucky Fried Chicken, Colonel Sanders is prohibited from using the word \"chicken\", thus KFC...

It\'s simply mind-boggling how marketing and politics have become so disgustingly nasty and in many cases downright unethical. I suspect a rival food chain started this hoax to bolster their own market share at the expense of the Colonel. It\'s irrelevant that I don\'t visit any of these fast food chains. What is relevant, however, is that a lot of the posts on this board bear a striking (or stinking) resemblance to the aforementioned mudslinging...

What\'s mind-boggeling is that there are people who believe there can be \"genetically engineered organisms\" with tubes pumping their blood, having no beaks, feet, feathers

It could very well be that KFC is inhumane in it\'s treatment of it\'s birds, but my understanding is that the name change to KFC was a business decision, not to avoid the word \"chicken\" but to avoid the word \"fried\" for health conscious customers.

To All,

I thought Kentucky was best known for Bluegrass, Rolling Hills, Thoroughbreds,Mall, Bourbon, Kentucky Colonels, Wildcat Basketball, Adolf Rupp, Colonels that made Bourbon ( ie Blantons Woodford etc), Rick Pitino, Louiville Cardinals, Churchill Downs, Keeneland, and then chicken.

Am I missing something?

We no longer mention Pitino\'s name.  Bless his heart.

Now I thought the reason they changed to KFC was to make the name hipper, or hip hoppier in this case.
Probably there was more than one reason that went into the decision which all boil down to that Kentucky Fried Chicken wasn\'t getting it done as a brand name anymore.

Ky is also known, if you believe the most recent issue of Esquire, which includes the interesting piece \"Hating Coach K\", as the place which has produced more American style icons than any other state. One interesting story about KFC is how the immense wealth it created for the founders & early investors ended up derailing the presidential hopes of John Y, whose bank withdrawals before his famous Vegas trips were of a size that the clueless feds suspected he was involved in money laundering. He was able to prove them wrong, but the story & the nos. leaked, & his party threw him overboard, the thinking being that the public would never trust their money to someone who gambled so much of his own. Bum rap, obviously, but nothing like using your henchmen to try to pin the blame on a 78 yr old man after you shot him in the face.

Interesting stuff but enough about birds already...

Baffert\'s been hot lately and he\'s got a possible juicy one today at SA. His Derby horse last year (say whaaaat?) is making turf debut in the 7th; 12-1 morning line, plus blinks (pos move for BB), full brother to Vexation (lifetime top on turf), his last out (first race in SoCal, 1/2 pt off top) was encouraging, and the field looks suspect on TG. Considering Senor Swinger\'s successful return at $17 last week & Totally Platinum\'s dirt to turf $19 score on Sat, he should take some action... right?

The scariest part of the article is the line \'There will be a PETA presence at the Derby this year,\" Mathews said.\'

What the heck does that mean???

I feel so much better that celebreties like Pam are watching over the key moral issues in our country and guiding us common folks along the right path! Thank you Pam, my moral compass is now on course again.

Maybe I\'ll boycott the derby too -- my reason would be I haven\'t had a winner since Silver Charm (God Bless Bob Lewis\' Soul).

Anyone for throwing paint on old ladies in fur coats this weekend?
