Title: TURF RAILS QUESTION FOR JERRY
Post by: high roller on January 24, 2006, 06:55:45 PM
The turf rails were at eight feet when Charmo ran a mile Saturday in 1:33.44; the rails were at 30 feet Friday when Terroplane won a classified allowance at one mile in 1:34.04. Terroplane ran his final quarter-mile in about 22.30 seconds. If Charmo and Terroplane both run in the Kilroe,

HR-- first of all, the Charmo race was mistimed-- we got it about a second slower, which fit a lot better.

But beyond that

a) those are not \"about\" distances, they are exact, meaning that the starting point is adjusted for the different rails to make them exactly a mile. So in that sense, the rail makes no difference.

b) the races had different run-ups, although not to a huge degree, and that can affect the final time somewhat.

c) the grass courses were not the same speed both days.
