Annika Lass worked 3 times in the fall at Santa Anita and nothing since.I see she was nominated for one of the Sunshine Millions races, but is she okay? Hopefully its only something minor and she\'ll be back in training soon.
Big-- don\'t get me started. She\'ll be okay, should run sometime in late February, missing the Sunshine Millions, which is why we sent her there to begin with.

Hope you don\'t mind my asking questions on here regarding horses you\'re involved with.I\'m sure Cerin was made aware of her problems with feed and tying up.Hopefully that had nothing to do with her being sidelined the last few months.I saw that race she ran on Labor Day where the goofy kid rider put her as wide as you can be on a turn and she still won geared down.Sometimes those filly/mares need to be trained a little easier, but I\'m sure Cerin will have her figured out eventually.
I thought entering Dixie Meister on 2 weeks rest for a 100k purse seemed a little odd. When he scratched I wasn\'t surprised. Is he okay and is he being pointed for anything in the next month or so?
When Super Frolic was bought last summer as a 5yo I think his top to that point was a negative 1.5 wasted in an allowance race. When you advise Millenium to buy are you thinking a trainer like Cerin or Assmussen can actually improve him even as a 5yo and older,or are you just figuring the -1.5 is relevant in a lot of stake races for big pots if he\'s managed properly? It turns out the -1.5 was good enough to win a 400k race, and got them a nice check for 4th in the BC Classic. When will he be running again?
Thanks
Big-- first of all, I never buy a horse with the idea that my trainer can improve it. I do avoid buying from certain trainers because I think my trainers might not be able to get as much out of them.
Don\'t know what your relationship with Annika was or what internal problems she had then, but the issues that have kept her from running are not those, not major, and not permanent. As far as I\'m concerned, she should have run already, but that\'s another story.
The Sam Houston race for DM was definitely not my idea, and I screamed about it until the owner listened. The horse may be sold, if not he will probably go in the Strub.
I wrote a whole post (\"Re: Super Frolic Buy\" 9/22/05) explaining my thinking in the Supe purchase, if you do a search you should be able to find it. He was supposed to run 2 weeks ago, and will be running in the Donn 2/4, barring further (Michael) Dickensian histrionics.
Jerry is Dickinson training Frolic now? I hadn\'t read this but just read your post.
Dut-- no, that was a reference to similar training styles.
LOL!! Oh ok! I was gonna tell you to stock up on Maalox.

I see she was nominated but not entered for the Hurricane Bertie on Saturday.
Is the 300k Barbara Fritchie at Laurel on March 4th in the plans,or do you leave her in South Florida and run in the 200k Shirley Jones two weeks later?
Thanks
I recommended nominating to the Fritchie (\"Shoot if you must this old gray head, but spare your country\'s flag, she said\"). My thought would be to look at who figures to run in both, then decide.
The real tough one is whether to run SF in the Big Cap, or wait until Dubai...
If winning a Grade 1 makes a big difference in stud fees for Super Frolic when he retires maybe you stay put against what should be a softer field.
If not you might as well gamble.3rd money in Dubai is like winning the Big Cap.Anything else is major gravy.
try running the nag for 10 gs at oaklawn.
How tough a question would it be to run the Horse in both spots ?
Annika Lass makes her return to the races in Distaff H (Gr 2) at Aq Inner Tube today. If you reread the Annika thread, she has apparently had some nagging injuries, but TG expected for her to return to races long ago (she last raced previous to being purchased on 9/12/05).
The Distaff, which I believe used to be run at 7f on the main, drew 3 graded winners. I expect Smokey Glacken to go off the favorite, and hope that Flame of Love, claimed by Lake 3 races back, gives her hell on the front end.
(If you look at Flame of Love\'s TG page you can see a fine example of a move up trainer at work).
Here\'s hoping that the early pace is sick enough to burn Smokey, who has never run over the inner, right out of the exacta. Maddalena (Pletcher) is coming off of her lifetime worst TG, has never run over the Inner, and I will project her also out of the exacta.
(If you have been following my picks lately, you are running to bet a Pletcher exacta box). EDIT oops -- Smokey is J Jerkens, not Pletcher
I take Great Intentions (drops 5 lbs off stakes win over course) over Magnolia Jackson (not as classy, not as fast, but undefeated over Inner) and Annika\'s Lass (who knows how fit she is?)(has won over course)(Asmussen nearly 25% with runners making their first start for him).
Big bet of the day is the Big Guy from Fiji winning a head to head with Sergio the slow playing Spaniard.
She ran good all things considered:
Six months off.In and out of training.Gappy works and was running against a few fast in form sprint females.
Went from Phila Park and the old trainer to Cerin at Santa Anita-then to Asmussen in Florida then up to New York.Thats a lot for her to deal with in six months time in addition to whatever minor physical issues she had.
She\'s five and this should be a peak year performance wise. Her top for the old trainer last year was a 1 on Labor Day at seven furlongs. Not sure what she ran yesterday(a little wide on the turn)but I think her next couple of races should be good ones with Asmussen. An extra furlong should help, and another rider wouldn\'t hurt.
