Title: Lawyer Ron
Post by: shanahan on January 17, 2006, 03:43:08 AM
I made the journey to La Downs for the wkend - 1st time there - and this horse was quite impressive...not just the win, but visually impressive before , during, and after the race - I have never seen a horse gallop out the way up he did -  this horse went around the turn after the finish line and halfway up the backstretch!
Keep an eye on him - hel\'ll fly under the radar at Oaklawn this Spring, but this is one good looking horse.  He\'s raced a lot of times for his age, and Holthus will undoubtedly wear him out by the end of March, but I\'m hoping he learned that lesson (too many races) last year with Greater Good.

I hope you read my earlier post on Saturday BEFORE the race! I\'ve liked this horse from the start.

You\'re quite right, his gallop out (in his last three races) has been incredible. And you should have seen that Evangeline Race, he went the last quarter in just under 23 seconds in a route race in late December -- I can\'t ever remember a two year old doing that! Older horses on turf do that but almost none ever do that on dirt.

He has a sprinter\'s pedigree,(actually, I don\'t know much about his mom) but he reminds me a lot of Afleet Alex (who the experts said would never go the classic distances). I can\'t wait until he runs again, and un-like a lot of the other 3 year olds, he hasn\'t \"run too fast\". I mean Stevie Wonderboy (who I bet against Saturday by the way) already ran a \"0\" on rags, I forget what he ran on t-g\'s, in the Breeder\'s Cup, but what\'s he going to do -- improve?? I don\'t think so. He\'ll be lucky to ever get back to number.

This guy bears watching! So he\'s going to Oaklawn next? That\'ll be fun.

I just re-read my post, I meant under 24 for  his last quarter at Evangeline. Under 23 would be impossible!  Do you have his expanded pedigree? I\'d love to look into his female line and see what\'s doing there; not that it matters because it\'s obvious distance is no problem, but his sire, Langfuhr was mostly a 7 fur - 1 mile type and his offspring include Wando, Imperial Gesture, Imperialism, Jambalaya, Sister Star - I don\'t know much about those except for Imperialsim and he was no router.

did not see your post - wish I would have! - before the race, but you were right on.
I\'ll be @ Oaklawn for the meet and am quite anxious to see who our next Smarty or Afleet Alex is....
