After watching both the Remson and KJC yesterday on top of the BC Juvy one gets the feeling this years crop of Two Year Olds is pretty damn good. Certainly its early and injury\'s could happen at anytime but most of these are lightly raced and didn\'t appear to be stretching things too far when they stretched out. Another words there is more left to see.
With Fair Grounds essentially offline look for Gulfstream to be \"really loaded\". Speaking of loaded where would we be without mentioning Bob Baffert. And he has a lot of good two year olds too. He stopped uncharacteristically early on most of his two year olds so he could be set up for a very involved spring.
Certainly there will be others who are under the radar screen who will progress, but they better come a long way quickly because there is some serious talent out there. Almost one of those throwback Juvenile years.
I think you read too much into Baffert shutting down his 2yo\'s early.
His stable was ill, they lost a top notch 2yo filly to pneumonia.
They also had a catastrophic break down to a top line 2yo colt, the names escape me at this hour. But bad luck might cause a person to back off a bit.
May they all come back safe.
The horse that broke down was What a Song.
That was a wonderful horse as a 2 year old. There was no way it was a derby horse but a nice usfull one as a sprinter. Remember how lucky his sires owner was to pay a million for his daddy and only race a few good races. now it looks like he is throwing speed to many young horses. Long term might be a good investment. And boy can his Dad coach
