Very encouraging story.
The fact that Ogden Phipps was mentioned leads me to believe this is very serious and will happen. He\'s damn tired of well bred and trained horses finishing second or third if they are lucky.
I want Frankel out of this game and Zito back to basics. I wan\'t Pletcher selling carpet. Theres nothing wrong with selling carpet. It\'ll be honest work for a change.
\"The equipment cost millions.\" No good will come from that. How does that effect the genral public when racing itself is UNWILLING to punish the cheaters! The penalties now are nothing but laughable slaps on the wrist. Dr. Don Catlin has just become PR agent for The Jockey Club and little if anything less.
CtC:
Interesting comment about Pletcher selling carpet. That\'s not a reference to Gasper Moschera, who was doing just that before he wandered over to the racetrack and dominated NY racing for 8- 10 years, is it?
I have contended here numerous times in the past that Pletcher and Frankel would not be affected by drug free racing. They have continued to thrive at the highest levels of racing with the advent of supertesting and detention; they continue to get quality stock from wealthy owners, though I haven\'t seen too many Juddmonte runners from Frankel lately. I did not take issue with Rando\'s post, but to me BF and TAP are both horsemen, not merely trainers.
Sorry to repeat myself, but Pletcher and Frankel are among the leaders in race winning trainers each year, and as such their charges are subjected to more post race tests than their less prolific training contemporaries.
Chuckles, if you think the empires that TAP and BF have built are bad for racing, petition NYRA to give TAP 60 stalls TOTAL instead of 60 stalls at Belmont AND 60 at Saratoga. Tell Magna to give TAP 60 stalls TOTAL instead of 60 at the Gulfstream entertainment, retail and racing center AND 60 at Palm Meadows.
The reason some of the lesser trainers do not go ballistic over the large stall allocations to TAP is that they realize that if TAPs stalls were cut in half, his wealthy patrons would not take the horses TAP could no longer train to other trainers, rather they would just decrease their involvement in the sport, and that\'s probably not good for anybody.
Would rather not talk about medication issues, but the continued character assassinations of Pletcher and Frankel are irresponsible, and under current testing regimes, unwarranted.
Richie, you get high marks in my book being on top of breeding. You can add November Snow and Newfoundland to the list. I would add that the Giant\'s Causeway everyone went Gaga about broke down after 7 races and ran poorly his lone dirt attempt upon a track designed to be like Churchill.
Regarding Pletcher and Frankel they materialized as horsemen in 2000-2001. Frankel was good on Turf before that. Maybe they just both hit on the elixer at the same time. Frankel at about 56, Pletcher at about 35. They probably shared a few beers together at the bar.
Those 10 and 6 million dollar horses being sold at Keeneland may or may not go to those guys. One thing I\'m certain of though is the prices are not being completely driven by Frankel and Pletcher. The folks buying those Storm Cats think Pletcher is getting what he is out of them due to the talent and ability of the horse. When the Chemistry Maven takes his position lets count the Storm Cats that win over a mile.
As for Pletcher and Frankel being indispensible to the game and a contention that their vacated stalls would remain empty, I don\'t have much of an opinion upon their stall allocation. I just want them to race clean. If requiring them to race clean results in unallocated stalls all I can say is sometimes removing the cancer leaves a void where the disease was cut out.
Judging by the Keeneland Sales unless those folks are buying all those horses for Frankel and Pletcher I dont think theres much to worry about in regard to full stalls after the cancer is gone.
Chuckles,to say that Frankel \'materialized as a horseman in 2000-20001\' might be your quote of the year to this point.I\'m not sure how old you are but BF has been training winners for 39 years on both coasts, starting with claimers in NY in \'66.Probably a few still remember him as \'king of the claimers\'.Do some research, you might be surprised to learn some things about a trainer that has been in the Hall of Fame since \'95.

Don\'t get me wrong. I give Frankel full credit for Marquetry and Bertrando and Tinners way and the host of good Turf horses he has trained. He also gets credit for his 1993 trainers eclipse award.
He gets credit for being a good claiming trainer and taking his show on the road to California too.
He doesnt get credit for much since Aptitude\'s Saratoga Breeders Cup Handicap is all. He\'s had a couple horses with ability since then, but they are so jazzed on illegals its hard to say how good.
You need to keep in mind when he became a \"Horseman\" and who became a member of his team. The same goes for Mr. Eclipse Award Winner trainer for last year.
Horseman my ass
When these two charlatans fall off when the Super Scientist gets involved I\'m sure folks will say \"Oh they just came across a run of bad horses.\"....lol But who cares what they say. The game will be better.
