Richard:
7:38 pm Jerry Brown (thorograph) has an theory that 3 yr. olds run two big then a weak race, this time of year. Do you agree?
Andy Beyer:
7:39 pm I respect the seriousness of both the Brown and Ragozin numbers but have sharp philosophical disagreements with both.
Andy Beyer:
7:40 pm I believe it highly presumptuous to look at numbers on a page without reference to the horses physical appearance, his trainer, or anything else...
Andy Beyer:
7:40 pm And to declare with certainty that he is going to run much better or worse today.
Andy Beyer:
7:41 pm I wish that the game were as neat as the sheet theorists maintain it is. But it\'s not.
TonyTonto:
7:55 pm Why do beyer figures not take into account ground lost during the race?
Andy Beyer:
7:56 pm Our figures have always attempted one thing that is measurable: how fast horses run.
Andy Beyer:
7:57 pm When you start throwing in half a dozen other factors and trying to quantify them I think the net result is something much less accurate and meaningful than a pure speed figure.
Andy Beyer:
7:57 pm I am sure I will be having this debate with the Sheets buys until my dying day.
jd:
7:58 pm Do you think War Emblems drop in figs from 114 to 109 might indicate that the KY Derby was his peak?
Andy Beyer:
7:58 pm No.
Andy Beyer:
7:59 pm It indicates that he had an easy trip in the Derby and a very difficult trip in the Preakness.
Andy Beyer:
7:59 pm As far as I am concerned his effort in the Preakness was a much, much stronger race.
Yeah, great point there Mr. Beyer - what exactly are the Beyer numbers again?
The man has no idea how Sheet players use the data.
Have you ever watched the man in action? It\'s embarrassing - just call him shaky.
I wonder how the excerpt you posted jives with the Derby? Who did Beyer select in the Derby and Preakness again? When did Andy Beyer last Select a Derby winner? Does anybody know? Some of the ghastliest appearing horses have always run their best appearing so. I\'m not saying appearance doesn't mean anything. You just have to know when it does and when it doesn\'t. Andy consults Clem Florio on that question. Andy and his figures are mucho passe. His latest book impliedly saying so.
Bold Forbes was a runt ,Spectacular Bid looked like a mule what does appearace mean ? If a 109 is better than a 114 then why isn\'t it a 120 ?
