I can\'t resist.
Friedman\'s Mass Cap post. Of nine horses in the race, six were characterized as \'could be used\', \'definitely use\', \'heavy use\', \'odds play\', must be used\', and \'only a use\' in the exotics. You can see it for yourself. The only play worth having (tri paid $94, tell me how to make money on this mutuel with six horses on your ticket) was the super, which you would have hit only by including a seventh horse, which Friedman had eliminated.
If you can\'t narrow down a nine horse field to any less than six possibilities, of which at least half figure to be very short prices, at least take pity on your readers and tell them it\'s not really playable, or to look elsewhere for value. I\'ll wait for the diehards to tell me how this is useful. I would be embarrassed, but hey, I\'m no \'expert\' offering \'analysis\' (I guess you\'re going to tell me he\'s just another guy who happens to post over there). There\'ll be some kind of excuse. I just hope he leaves it up.
I\'m sure all the guys posting over here think this kind of thing is great, because none of them are saying anything bad about it over there. Then again, if you did say anything bad about it, they\'d probably take it down. HP
This post was not necessary.
Part of getting ready for any big contest is psyching yourself up & psyching your opponent out. Continue your bagwork, HP, but don\'t forget the other important aspects of your training regimen.
I\'m not psyching myself up. Look, the \'contest\' is one day. I\'m sure the performance of Patent and myself are more a reflection on us than the figures.
Robespierre has done this a hundred times (not every time, but enough of the time). It\'s total BS. It\'s been defended (ok Michael, not by you). If a guy came up to you at the track and said \"I like six horses on my ticket\" in a nine horse field and two of the horses were 9/5 and 2/1 what would you say? Wow.
A lot of posts up here are unnecessary. HP
Not only are almost all posts unnecessary, but I\'ve heard that some are intended to be humorous and/or poke fun at someone. Maybe I should have stuck with my original idea, which was to suggest that Michael D. & Superfreakicus get together & rent a copy of the Mr T video which has become something of a cult classic: \"Be Somebody Or Be Somebody\'s Fool.\" Wait a minute. Strike that. It sounds too much like a cyber smart aleck. I\'m going to stick with my original post after all.
you dudes really have a hardon for friedman over here, don\'t you?
why do you read his board and his race analysis if you find it so worthless?
you don\'t see me over here on a daily basis ---- I just stopped by for the triple crown.
ordinarily, I wouldn\'t waste my time.
I didn\'t read the post but if he really touted six horses and didn\'t pick a winner. It sounds like he hit the Trifecta Cold!
lol
Tabi
By all means, superfreak, you should stop wasting your time over here. HP
A lesson we all need to learn (myself included). PEOPLE WITH NO IDEAS TALK ABOUT OTHER PEOPLE, WHILE PEOPLE WITH GREAT IDEAS TALK ABOUT IDEAS. Posts with ideas and opinions about horses and horse races (BEFORE the races are run) will improve the caliber of this board. This will be my last post on the string, good luck in the contest HP!!
I would encourage handicappers of all stripes to post their picks and thoughts on the card, and I suggest people follow the \'$1,000 any way you want\' format to simplify comparisons. It would be great if some Beyer and other system devotees got involved too. Let\'s focus on making this a \'real-world\' handicapping board (even if it\'s just for a day) and leave all the invective behind. I\'ve taken my peace pills today. HP
\"Let\'s focus on making this a \'real-world\' handicapping board (even if it\'s just for a day) and leave all the invective behind.\"
ahahahaha...good luck!
try reading this thread again......and pretty much every other.
would you characterize this topic as handicapping?
nice focusing.
maybe what they need here is a more stringent deletion policy to keep all that invective from filling up the board.
Yes I would characterize the subject on this thread as \'handicapping\' (and what some people call handicapping). Can\'t wait to see your picks, soupy! HP
For the record, I don\'t find Friedman\'s analysis helpful from a betting standpoint at all. It\'s very mealy-mouthed.
I use Friedman\'s picks for comparison purposes only and occasionally as a check to see if I have any strong disagreements with his reads. I never let it influence my betting strategy anymore.
The last time I actually let his picks influence me was the 1999 B.C. at CD when he was all over Affirmed Success and some other horse in the sprint who had just ran a huge fig. Thank God we saved with Reraise as the top picks ran terrible, which is what I thought they would run.
I do find it amusing that certain readers appear to wait with baited breath for his big race analyses.
