Title: How does payout tell the final odds
Post by: Josephsluck on June 03, 2005, 10:03:11 AM

Hi,

When I see the results for Win;Place and show, How would the prices tell me the final odds on each of those horses before they were off and running?

probably a dumb question as well what exactly does 9/5 odds mean as oposed to 3/1 odds?

Thank you kindly

To get from the payoff to odds, the formula is Odds = (Payoff - 2.00)/2.  The win, place, and show pools are separate, so the place and show prices don\'t tell you anything about the win odds.  9/5 is 1.8/1.  Hope this helps.
