Title: Going Wild Derby Bound
Post by: jimbo66 on April 24, 2005, 06:57:26 PM
I guess Lukas was encouraged by what he saw in the Lexington.  Instead of getting beat by 40 like in the Wood, he got beat by less than half that.  He is moving up....

Can there be any doubt that if Lukas trained Galloping Grocer, he would have been encouraged by the 3rd today versus NY-Breds and he would be an entry.

The bright side is that the more cooplete throwouts that enter, the more possible the Superfecta becomes.

Gowand, correct..... I take it you didn\'t play the race? The exacta was $46 that was a big surprise! The 2, that the summary correctly noted would not relish the mud, was beaten 3/4 for 3rd.

If Going Wild goes, he is likely a rabbit intended to soften up Bellamy Road. Lukas has done this several times before in the Derby and it often leads to fast early fractions.

He has not done it lately but probably because it would not have helped him much. Past examples going back a ways include Total Departure, On The Line, Real Cash and Honor and Glory - all of which set the early fractions at long odds apparently in an effort to set it up for their stablemates.

On the list which gvido posted earlier, GW would seem to have nowhere near enough graded stakes earnings to get to the gate.

Seven likely scratches GW needs.

Rockport---Porter is finally coming to his senses

Survivalist--Shug will reconsider and pass.

Storm Surge--clocked in every Graded start

Wild Desert--miserable Arky effort.

Magna Graduate--put this one on the list in case Elisabeth Alexander decides to partake in a once in a lifetime event.

Monarch Lane--Pletcher IL Derby runner-up

Real Dandy--??? hasn\'t shown much, but has the $$$

Will Greeley get another to scratch? I wonder.
