Title: U S S Tinosa....HELP!
Post by: Michael D. on May 16, 2002, 12:14:29 PM
thinking of incuding this one in my exotic tickets, just one worry.....
going a mile and an eighth this horse looks like a \"3\" to me...think we can toss the SA Derby, horrible trip.... the San Felipe was a nice race, with a nice #, but the horse was not going to run down Md\'O if the race was another 1/8 (the Preakness distance), in fact, my opinion is that he would have lost more ground, and run closer to another \"3\". At the longer distances, is this horse capable to running a \"1\" or so, or is he a mile/mile 1/16 horse bound to back up going the Preakness distance???  Any thoughts out there? I am quite confused, as I am worried about tossing this one at long odds.....(also noticed nice mud #, guess I will have to use him if it is wet)

In the past, every time this horse bounced, he came back with a career effort. He enters with almost 7 weeks rest, a catagory where Hollendorfer has had some success.I think he has to get back to the 1 before he gets another career effort, but he\'s more likely to run a 2 or a 3. And forget price, he\'ll be less than 8-1 at post time as he seems to be the wiseguy horse.Great workout over the track and post is good.

Speaking of morning line, I know you\'re dying for mine, so I\'ll post it later.

Hi Michael,

USS Tinosa has a pretty nice family tree. He obviously has speed which he gets from his grandsire Danzig, but he also has lots of stamina influences in both his dam side and his dam sire side.

Foxhound\'s dam was Lassie Dear who was the dam of Weekend Surprise, a brilliant brrodmare being the dam of A P Indy, Summer Squall, and Honor Grades.

USS Tinosa\'s dam sire is Wolf Power, who pedigree traces back to the great stamina influenceing sire Princequillo.

Hope this helps.

I was at both the San Felipe and the SA Derby with my friend Jamey who bought Tinosa for his current owners, so I won\'t claim to be a disinterested third party here. That said, I\'m keying him for the Preakness. The SA Derby was ugly, he got lifted clean off his feet (although he did still manage to finish ahead of Proud Citizen, okay that didn\'t mean anything). I disagree with the idea that he wouldn\'t have caught M D\'o in the San Felipe, when Laffit took back it was up to Tinosa to put away Siphonic (remember him?) and he did that. Then, Laffit came back on in one helluva ride and opened up but Tinosa was still running at the wire and probably moved a bit soon because he was trying to beat Siphonic not MDO. I\'m not saying he wins, but it\'s close with a little change in the circumstances. In the Preakness he is going to sit a perfect trip, he\'s fresh, he can win with his best race and I hear the jocks got a win or two over the track. Throw in the nice work and 15-1 and he\'s kinduv a no brainer. I\'m not saying he\'ll win but I think he\'s definitely the best bet off the ML.

Thanks matey, good info there....the work over the track was nice, makes me think Desormeaux will sit the perfect ground saving trip....If I\'m wrong about Md\'O, and Prado runs wide.... why not?? I guess you have to have him on a few tickets at 10-1..
