I came to work tonight
and there\'s no work to be done
Gulfstream\'s Monday card is not inspiring
henceforth this poem
Its nearly April, and the smell of
urine from the subways begins to rise
while Derby contenders/pretenders
drop like flies
Somewhere in Kentucky tonight
the 08 Derby winner may be foaled
between now and then
he will be at least 6 times sold
My little cat got loose tonight
ran too fast for my wife to catch her
five minutes later
a call from Bob Baffert
The Thorograph board
to which I have become addicted
was monopolized all weekend
by TGJB and CH conflicted
CH repeatedly says
he wants no more of this action
but keeps popping out of the tub
like Glenn Close in \"Fatal Attraction\"
Pace, fractions, final times, faulty figures
who carried the weight, who had the rail
But Pat Day once said
\"Time only matters if you\'re in jail\"
I take into account all of these factors
throw in some memory, some instinct
(dont forget to reverse those exactas)
\"I handicap by the seat of my pants\"
I proudly say
and usually am left for broke
at the end of the day
Naughty New Yorker
I thought you were a contender
But Pat Kelly wouldn\'t listen
and Samyn rode you like Jamie Spencer
Byanosejoe, I marvel at your mile
trapped on a dead rail, finally escaping
only to be steered back there again
you ran like a wild horse
See you in the Withers, or maybe Derby Trial?
[My apologies if my attempts at poetry or levity insulted anyone.]
>My little cat got loose tonight

So he has called you too.
However if I was you I might not let my wife handle the deal.
Richiebee,
Well done!! I had a very good laugh.
Your JLSamyn-NNyer comments are on the mark. I\'ve had both very good and bad fortune with this horse. At Saratoga sept5 My Wife and I both had this horse in the exacta at 79-1. His prior two races (before this one- I didn\'t bet this past one)he\'s buring up the money he won for me back then. Think this horse either 1) deserves a better jockey to see if that helps or 2) a rest until Saratoga meet.
Again well done!!
NC Tony
Richie-- that poem should not go unrecognized, and the Chappaquidick reference was pretty funny too. Keep up the good work.
TGJB:
Glad you enjoyed the attempt at verse, and didn\'t think the Chappaquidick reference was in poor taste.
I will go to my grave never being able to figure out for myself whether the Kennedys were sinners or saviors. At least they developed a sense of self deprecating humor over the generations. A few months before his death, John Kennedy Jr. began a meeting with a roomful of potential investors in Chicago by saying \"Its great to be back in Chicago, site of 2 of my family\'s largest purchases-- the Merchandise Mart and the 1960 Presidential election.\"
