Title: Boing!!
Post by: TGJB on March 19, 2005, 03:59:12 PM
And that thud you hear is the Afleet Alex show bettors passing out. Good thing they worked him that extra eighth last time two weeks before this.

No such thing as a bounce, they tell me.

But before I do what thud was louder, the Show Pool plungers at Oaklawn or Bob Bafferts Derby hopes.

Let\'s not forget the jockey change.  The horse runs for Jeremy Rose.

Always nice to see the bridgejumpers get an education though.

BA,
bring him back for the ark derby with rose, see what happens. the horse will do the same thing. take him off the TC crown path immediately. he is brilliantly fast, why ruin him?

I guess the horse didn\'t like the way John Velazquez chirped when he got smacked between the eyes with the eighth pole . . .

The horse has already acquitted himself at this distance twice. He looked like he might be running erratically - maybe a physical problem.

Horses never just get beat anymore, there\'s always an excuse.  On the other hand, he\'s never run anywhere near this badly.

The horse hasn\'t got the job done three times now at a distance . . . and Jeremy Rose doesn\'t have to worry . . . you\'ll won\'t see John Velazquez on this animal again in the immediate future.

Okay folks, read the horse\'s PP\'s.  In the Juvenile they came home in 30&4 and he lost less than a length.  In the Champagne they came home in 30&4 and he didn\'t lose any ground at all.

That is decidely not the profile of a horse that can\'t get the trip.  He may not want to go a mile and a quarter but very, very few of them do.

I guess your right . . . but not with my money . . . feel free to back him wherever he shows up again . . . Delaware Park?

bally,
it\'s the wrong path. we have been saying that the horse is not a 10f horse for a while now. why work him in 1:22 two weeks before a grade 2 route when you expect to bring him back in 9f and  10f races in the next seven weeks? AA ran well in his two previous route races, but you still took your money out of your pocket and gave it somebody else at 6/5 and 3/1. today 3/5? if he goes in the ark derby, will you take 3/1?
great race horse, no doubt. he went for $75g though, and he won\'t be a $100g stallion. just take it easy on the guy.

.....
hey bally,
let me guess - you are a big jeremy rose fan? i am a big velazquez fan. we will agree on one thing though - they should not have taken the mount away from rose. when a jock get a horse running like jeremy got AA going, they should stick with him.

Michael D.

Nope, I\'m not a J. Rose fan and I think Velazquez is a good jockey. BUT, I belong to the school that believes jockeys are mostly passengers.

Don\'t change jockeys on a horse that is performing well. Even though Velazquez is more experienced and probably the superior rider, he may not fit this horse better.

In this case, the horse ran so poorly I expect to pick up the paper in the next day or two and read that he has a physical problem.

The horse obviously had something wrong physically, he was never running comfortably at any point in the trip.

Bounce?  I don\'t think so.

After looking at the redboard analysis of the Rebel yesterday, I would say \'Boing\' is the popping of blood vessels on the head of the poor schlob (if there was one) who purchased the analysis yesterday. You know, the analysis that singled Alex in the late double. But today, JB is crowing about a bounce? How appropriate is the title \'Redboard\'...

Easy Goer-- whoa, pal. I didn\'t do the analysis, but I thought (along with pretty much everyone else) that AA was the most likely winner. The point is not that the horse got beat, it\'s that he didn\'t fire-- which was very likely the rersult of the huge effort and only two weeks recovery time.

I saw a report elsewhere that AA was scoped after the race, and showed a 3 on a scale of 5 lung infection. This is EXACTLY the kind of thing stressful efforts can induce, by knocking out a horse\'s resistance to infection-- in fact, there was one time I predicted it in advance. I was working with Dickinson on Da Hoss, and he insisted on running the horse back on two weeks rest after the Illinois Derby in a meaningless allowance at Garden State, just to get a grass start in him before the Jersey Derby. I told him he was risking knocking the horse out, but Michael wouldn\'t listen-- so we won the allowance and the derby, 3 starts in 5 weeks, and the horse got sick and missed a month\'s training. Michael said it was a coincidence. We traded a start in a 25k allowance for a start in a graded stake.

Would have been nice for anyone buying the analysis if you (or whoever did it, though ultimately it is on you) mentioned this instead of suggesting singling him, eh?

Now they said he might still make it to the Ark. derby.
