Title: Channing Hill
Post by: NoCarolinaTony on February 28, 2005, 10:10:02 PM
Chuckles the Clown,

You called this kid a monkey. I think He\'s got potential. I guess I\'m calling you out.

I\'ve seen a lot of em in my years. Until he falls and braks some bones, I think this kid\'s got potential, and  not a monkey as you said.

I tried to tell CTC this kid was genuine, but it may be too late. Article in the Racing Form, lost 2 lbs of his apprentice allowance, will be getting good mounts from top trainers-- the value may be gone.

I would not call Hill an overly aggressive rider, but he seems to be well rounded, comfortable on or near the pace, or making the late move.

I could recount five or six exceptional rides in the past few weeks, but it would get quite boring.

If he has a clear head on his shoulders he will ride the NYRA circuit until Edgar, John, Javier and the retiree get back from  Florida. At that point, he should be heading down to the Jersey Shore. He will still have 5lbs allowance when they return to the Inner Tube next winter

you can have him.

I called Prather a non entity prior to her bug loss too.

The rides are what count. When you get seven pounds you also get a fair number of the best mounts. In those circumstances you can look pretty good even when you ride like a screaming monkey and its not a screaming monkey ride.

channing hill has two possibilities. Improve or move on.

Improvement is always possible i guess. Its the loss of the bug where the rubber meets the road.

Ctc,

You wish you had hill all week last week don\'t you. The kid is only 17. Yes it\'s true the rubber meets the road once they lose the bug (See Pablo Fragoso), but I see good early signs so far. Time will tell, but as long as folks dismiss due to some bias, people can still make some nice scores. And besides hasn\'t Jerkens already proven it\'s not always the jockey anyway over and over again?
