Title: White Mercedes strikes thrice!!!
Post by: JohnTChance on February 21, 2005, 02:00:23 PM
Well... at Laurel this weekend, our ole buddy WHITE MERCEDES won all three stakes!

- COAST LINE shipped up from Florida to win the John B. Campbell BC for Pletcher.
- [MERCEDES also finished second with Florida shipper OFFLEE WILD for Dutrow.]
- CATIVA shipped up from Florida to win the G2 Barbara Fritchie for Dutrow, at 5-1!
- SARATOGA COUNTY shipped up from Florida to win the G2 General George for Weaver.

As my friend often says... \"Hey, why handicap?\"

lol John,

I had two of the three. The White Mercedes connection was not lost upon me. Vet information needs to be listed right on the program.

White Mercedes is vet extraordinaire Steve Allday, or the \"Magic Man\" as he is referred to in some circles.  He is the vet for a lot of high profile outfits whose stock share a few telling characteristics including big jump-ups, less volatile form cycles (i.e. horses that don\'t bounce) the ability to \"re-break\" when asked in the last 1/8 mile, etc.

Current clients include Pletcher, Frankel, Dutrow, Romans, Margolis. Past clients included Pat (I took pieces of crap like Favorite Trick and Countess Diana and turned them into multiple GRI stakes winners) Byrne.

Where there any confirmed sightings of him at Laurel?  It\'s pretty tough to juice \'em when they ship in unless you ship the juice with the horse and have local vet do the deed!

I know Allday frequently flies out to \"treat\" client\'s horses.  He has done that this winter with Frankel and Pletcher horses running in California.  My guess is with that many running in MD, he flew up on Friday and spent the weekend.

Re: White Mercedes...

On the Laurel video feed before the General George, the pre-race analysis reporter
said that a Baltimore newspaper that morning had included a quote from trainer
Scott Lake saying that \"only an act of God\" could get his horse beat.

Maybe Lake was right.

Just for the record, vets have assistant vets around the country, same as trainers.

Does 7F and running too fast early fall into the category of \"act of God\". :-)

I believe Allday\'s assistant is a guy named Gerrity (sp?).  I usually see him in Allday\'s company though that doesn\'t mean he doesn\'t treat horses while Allday\'s away.  I do know for a fact that Allday has flown out to California on a couple of occasions this winter to treat Frankel (Lundy\'s Liability), Pletcher (name escapes me) and Dutrow (Love Of Money) horses.

Catalin:

Can you tell me what Allday looks like?

Also, Love of Money did nothing out here, and Frankel didn\'t start winning until he left for GP and Brazil and Humberto took over.  So does that mean Allday could not do anything in the SA surroundings or that it didn\'t work?

I don\'t count Romans\' falling record in the last few weeks against Allday, as Romans admitted that his horses at Palm Meadows are sick and that\'s why he is keeping Roses in May at GP until they go to Dubai.

Do you think that Allday will be out here on March 5th when Saint Liam goes in the SA Handicap?
