Detention Barn is a minor inconvenience. We\'ve all written with TGJB\'s advice to make it mandatory. Go get you\'re lawyer cheater. You need one, because the latter positives will send you packing.

Horseracing has a compelling interest to secure its integrity. Lets see how many judges you can find sympathetic over detention barn impositions.

Ctc:

If Canani\'s headed to hell, where does
the Sweet Cat go? Jerkens and Mott also
train for Wygod, but both have avoided
Trip Crown races in the past. Who else
 trains for Wygod in Cal?

My take on Baffert: A scaled down Lukas.
Success in the Triple Crown races.
Success with 2YOs. Access to lush
owner bankrolls. Will we ever see
him train a top notch older handicap
horse? Will he ever be remembered for
an extended run (like over a couple of
years) with a great older turf horse?.

Unfair to say one dimensional, just
not well rounded. Maybe he doesn\'t
 need to be. Successful absolutely.

Three trainers who I have known to
 be well rounded: Whittingham, Mott
and Jerkens have shown a real
 aversion towards the Triple Crown
 races. Charlie seemed to have
acquired a taste for it later in life.
Not all trainers have patience for the
 disruption of their routine, which
 consists primarily of watching their
 animals very closely.

If great trainers train day to day,
none of them likes to be given a
schedule in January for races in
May, especially when the schedule calls
for 3 challenging races in 6 weeks.
Baffert has a triple crown schedule
which begins when the hammer drops.

Richie,

Theres some merit to what your saying. A lot of what I say is based upon impression. You develope it on anecdotal experiences. I\'d just point out the following horses.

Silver Charm- I think he had a handicap career.

Conagree-Ran for three or four years

Real Quiet- Got injured, got time and got back to the races for more Graded Wins.

Captain Steve- Well spotted perhaps, but a winner for multiple years

Thirty Slews- This one was one of Baffert\'s best deals.

Theres a lot of others. Maybe Baffert doesn\'t get real long careers, but you rarely see a guy like Lukas running for extended campaigns. (Cat Thief must have been made of steel.)I will grant that the above horses, maybe with the expection of Conagree where cheaper \"lesser\" pedigree types and maybe not real fashionable in today\'s market to rush to retirement. Baffert doesnt worry about \"fashion\"....he looks for solid pedigree and conformation that he knows will work. FuRok...835K for a Wild Wonder?...lol How close do you think Lukas would have got to being able to see something solid there?

I think Baffert is going to set all the records. He\'s had four Triple Crown Classic winners and each have have knocked down two legs and a couple almost won the dang thing and one probably should of. He\'s 50 about. Lukas 70. The next twenty years look bright for Baffert. You need luck. But his history with a Batonnier, A Silver Buck, A Quiet American and an Our Emblem, can\'t be ignored. He got alot outta Captain Steve too. He\'s the real deal, Lukas has a nice resume. Theres a difference.
