Title: Kentucky Oaks Future Wager
Post by: Michael D. on February 13, 2005, 05:35:26 PM
no odds attractive enough to take a shot in my opinion, but a few thoughts.

maddalena - brilliantly fast, and runs like she wants to go a bit further, but 9f? 11-1 seems too short for a filly with her pedigree.

sharp lisa - looks like the real deal. if she stays sound, i like her chances a lot. not sure why winstar gave her away for $50g though, and she does wear front wraps.

summerly - definitely the real deal. very fast, and bred to go far. i wish i could have locked in the higher odds before the FG race (was too lazy to check out vegas odds). 14-1 just a bit too short for me at this point.

sweet catomine - this is a very big storm cat filly, soundness could be an issue i guess. she is a fast one, but not that much better than SL or summerly. she also likes to come from off the pace, which could be an issue in a big Oaks field. 9-2 too short.

field - past experience tells me 9-2 is a fair price at this stage.

i was going to take a shot with high fly at 37-1 yesterday (odds late in the day if i saw the board correctly). they bet him down to 25-1 though (too low). i guess the switch to zito means they are definitely going for the derby. i would imagine nick will run him once more, maybe in the blue grass or fla derby. if he is right, i think he will run very well in either of those races, then head into the derby as one of the top three or four favorites.

I took a flyer on GALLOPING GROCER at 35-1. Like his smooth, effortless stride and he gets up into the pace without being urged.

Like the fact that trainer did not have him all cranked up for useless purse on AQU inner. February start virtually assures 3 starts prior to Derby, assuming he stays on track.

Not crazy about Schettino, but I like 35-1 on strong runner-up in the Remsen.

Good Luck,
Joe B.
