Title: Turning For Home...
Post by: TGJB on January 22, 2005, 01:50:23 PM
After 3 mandatory play races day 2, we have 4 TG on-line customers in the top 10 in the NTRA contest. Go, guys.

That\'s what I\'m looking at, but it\'s running about an hour behind, which is like running two rounds behind for a boxing match.

There has been an awful lot of chalk today, so it\'s been very hard for those out of the top 10 to make up ground, and the big question to me is whether since the last update our guys used the 7th at FG as an optional race. If they did, they had to hit the $25 horse-- co-second fastest, best pattern, totally concealed.

The thing I don\'t like about this \"contest\" is that if you\'re good or lucky enough to select a 60-1 horse, you should be good or lucky enough to get credit for a 60-1 horse. The contest also pushes real handicapping away from solid low odds horses, besides not giving credit for really astute bomb plays, (Not that they occur that often). The point is if your gonna penalize short price selection and reward middle price wishing, reward it fully. Its a \"Window\" game. It boils down to fictional plays on mid price horses with a runners chance firing and I don\'t like that. It seems contrived. The leaders did cash on some nice prices, but you have to wonder how many of them bet real money with both hands.

When the format is changed to the number of winners and place horses selected per selections regardless of odds, I\'ll consider it a contest of skill.

Are either Chris or Mall in the top 10?

Latest update, after 4 mandatory races, TG guys are 3 of the top 6. Problem is, last year it took longer to come up with a winner than Bush-Gore, so we may not know until late tonight.

Yeah well if guys are significantly behind yet within reach and have discretionary races remaining I guess they keep passing until their race arrives, even if its late. I\'m really not certain how \"discretionary\" the selections are.

After 6 mandatory races, one of our guys has opened up a decent lead, 3 other TG on-line accounts in the top eight.

Seventh mandatory, not counted, was chalk. One mandy left, very few optional possibilities left. Stay short...

Also don\'t forget about the teams. The Twin Spires Club is running second after day one. The kid I posted about the other day is on that team and he is Thorograph user.

$15,000 to the winning team is not too shabby, but nothing for second. Damn
