Just heard that SAARLAND came out of the race with a bone chip. Not making any excuses, but could this be a main cause for him not running that well?? It\'s one thing to have your horse running bad, but when you find something like this out it hurts even worse.
By the way Robert F. said were going to see a different running order in MD. Talking about M .D\'oro is going to show a big turn around.
Looking at the chart, not only did the 1st 3 finishers run 1-2-3 around the track, many of the also rans pretty much held the same position throughout the race - except Medaglia. He closed from 10th-9th-7th-8th-6th-4th.

I read M D\'Oro got bumped around at the start (there\'s ONE horse I expected to see close-up early, Jer). If he got out good and did what he did in the Wood I think it would have been a different story. So either Frankel told him to rate or he just didn\'t get out good. Maybe some combo of both. Them\'s the breaks. Glad you figured it out. Still don\'t see how you used PCitizen. HP
Yes, MDoro was completely sandwiched and shut off at the start. He probably got the worst of anyone, he was completely shuffled back.
Also noticed that Eddie D tried to take perfect Drift up the rail entering the home strech and then realized there was no room there and had to check up and switch to the outside. Guess this didn\'t make that much difference since he had every chance to get second and couldn\'t hold on. Lukas and Baffert go on EVERY derby ticket for me from now on, or until they get busted with drugs.
I thought he had room with PDrift and not enough horse. It looked to me like WarEmb was holding him off, and then when PDrift shifted around behind him, WarE shifted gears and took off. HP
Bobe chip excuse seems like clutching at straws. He ran poorly partly because they all came out of the gate walking (and I mean walking, I still can\'t believe it when I watch it again on tape) and yet he was 10 lengths behind after half a furlong. I knew it was over then. I like Johnny V. but that seemed like having a plan and not being flexible enough to adapt it to the circumstances. Still, he showed no sign that he would have won in different circumstances on the day (though he did close, which many others didn\'t). I think that if I had backed Medaglia I would be cursing Frankel for what seemed like a change in tactics. But the winner looked great - I just wish we could have found out if he was so good that he could win when properly challenged. I had big prices on both saarland (20/1)and perfect drift (25/1) and went in with a big smile knowing I had won the pre-race future stakes - unfortunately I got my ass kicked in the race and that\'s all that matters.
excuses?? Well lets put it like this we wont be seeing SAARLND run till the fall.........
I agree what\'s with the bone chips ?saarland finished on the bit although 15 lenghts or so behind the winner ,who in fact had bone chips himself ,that\'s why Walden passed on the horse .You want a reason why the horse lost ,no pace ,no adjustment .Saarland probably have lost anyway but he could have been closer
News flash ,I just heard that Baffert wants espy to rate in the preakness
why does people put so much on pace. ok so your saying it wild horses was a speed horse and he got out there and set the same pace as WE did, your telling me he would have won?? NO NO NO why, cause he wasnt fast enough his pattern wasnt ready. Its like this WE won this race cause he tripled up his 1.0 thats it. Robes once said there was a race back in the 80\'s and this horse was on the front all by himself and he set the slowest frc. ever in the certain dist. and he ended up running very bad. The closers came and got him. If that horse would have won, we would never heard the end of how the pace won it for him. I don\'t the derby was ran in real slow times was it???
Like it or not pace has alot to do with the race ,could WE have gone 109 for six and still won ? I doubt it,the race was filled with late runners and a bunch of garbage inside of the winner, virtually guaranteeing a dream trip .The only way Johannesburg is ever going to get a mile and a quarter is in a horse van ,Pletcher\'s horse didn\'t look good ,the 3 was a stone closer so was the 4
I see it all the time horses running their butts off early in a race, either head to head with another or all by themself, and still hanging on for the win or 2nd. You might have said it best INSIDE TRIP saving ground. I dont know how wide M.doro was as some people have said he might end up getting a better or the same number.
