Title: Are Jockeys The Most Underpaid Athletes in All of Sports
Post by: Silver Charm on August 06, 2025, 02:10:58 PM
Pratt or Ortiz (pick one) might have $35M in Total Purse Earnings a Year. He gets 10% and also has an Agent to pay. Thats $3.5M gross.

We have 40 year old guys in the NBA making $40M a year and they cant play any better than garbage park ball jacking up 3\'s and walking up and down the floor. And they can\'t be hidden on the floor. Meaning this isnt a Relief Pitcher or an Aging QB who still has arm strength. High School Kids are getting NIL Deals within range of $1.5M-$2.0M all over the place

If a Jockey calls in Sick with the Flu he isnt getting paid. If he works hard (Mornings, days or night. Mud or Rain) and is highly successful he isnt getting paid enough.

\"Are they underpaid or are the others spectacularly overpaid ..... or both?\"

Yes. Both. Jockeys daily risk their lives and well-being for peanuts. Ballers risk sitting out a year while getting paid handsomely to rehab torn tendons.

But what sort of cash do their employers generate from their businesses? By that measure, ballers are probably underpaid, while the jocks are lucky for the peanuts.
