Title: Roses in May

JB,

How solid is the figure you gave Roses in May last out? Others have that race a lot slower than his prior races.

The Turfway figure is solid. If you recall, it was about that card that I made the comment that Beyer had the KY minors (specifically EP) too slow, and I\'m not surprised that he did the RIM race that way.

By the way, I may or may not have time to get into my annual discussion of all the examples of Ragozin vs. The Sense That God Gave You, but this horse provides one interesting example. On Ragozin, his Whitney is four lengths WORSE than his TP win, and EIGHT LENGTHS WORSE than his win at Prarie Meadows. In other words, if he had run back to his PM race at Saratoga, he would have won the Whitney by 8 lengths.

Anybody really believe that?

NO, I dont believe it. This horse has three things that bother me. 10 marks, Funny Cide and the weight.

10F with several other speed/pressers in the race makes it a very tough task. However, he has something going for him that I absolutely love.

1. His Beyer figure for his last race may be understating his performance.

2. His race before that was one of best performances of the year by an older horse. He contested a very tough pace and was dead game late earning a good figure.

I love when a horse has 2 races in a row that are better than they look on the surface. They are almost always a good value. Getting the job done against this field is another matter. :-)
