1st let me say the Foster being a $1,000,000 Purse is just WOW!! When I first got really interested in racing Vanlandingham won the Foster with a purse of $85K. He then shipped to New York to run in the Suburban Handicap July 4 wkd!! Out playing golf that day I come home to answering machine message of \"Silver we need to get a bet down on Vanlandingham. He worked in 1:25 at CD early morning before shipping up and the word is getting out. Pick Up Pick Up! Wasnt meant to be....Vanlandingham won by 10 and paid $20.00. That was 40 years ago. Seems like yesterday and being a kid again.
Fort Washington was briefly considered for the Manhatten. They saw the nominees, it was 3 week wheel back and this race here is with more rest and maybe more money. He is a tad better than Bertie. But this race is Loaded with Killers. Best horse on that day. Best Trip Wins. I think when I get the numbers tomorrow it will tell me that too.
Sunday at CD is Loaded also
Hello Silver,
Fort Washington (6-1) raced one time at CD, a bit over a year ago. It was the first race of 2024, and he never picked up his feet after breaking funny.
Is that a \"thumb\" race in your opinion? He ran super in his next start at Monmouth. It gives me pause when a runner doesn\'t perform on a surface he returns to. I will sometimes employ my thumb. What do you think?
A half brother to Two Phil\'s by McKinzie is in Friday\'s last race as an also eligible. The 13 horse trained by the \"Cat Man\" Catalano.
The whole weekend card is amazing. Should be some good racing.
Gary, I can address that. First let me correct myself. Vanlandingham won the Foster and the Purse $56K!!!!. Not $85K. The Purse has gone up 19 fold in 40 years. Vanlandingham won Champion Older Horse and Shug moved to New York the next year. 40 years ago....
Lagynos jumped forward 4 points 4 back in a race take OFF the Turf. Go figure. He has held that form. Retains Pratt. Drew inside.
Mercante I hear might scratch. That changes everything as he figured to be in a garden spot trip. But its not certain. Gun Runners move forward significantly from 3 to 4. This one didnt race much at 4 so all the improvement came when he turned 5. He beat a field as good as this two back. He just didn\'t win. Redistricting came back and won and Integration was 2nd in the Manhatten.
Brilliant Bertie is a local favorite. He will take his share of money. He is not quite fast enough. 4th off the Layoff and should be dead fit after last
Mi Ramon. Been facing the best in the country. Seems steady enough. Again another who figires to be right there.
Irad and Will Walden have been an excellent pair. Must respect. Taking Candy has beaten Fort Washington and Mercante. But that was then. Now if a different story.
Fort Washington has the PERFECT SHEET. There I said it. He has improved every year. He has walked his way down to a level where he is about a length faster than the rest of this field. But he has to repeat. And if he does you better be hitting the Cash Register hard. The race at CD should be tossed. The connections certainly did becauae they ran him back in a Grade 3 and he won. Junior and he get along. He has had one race in the last 4 months, is fit and in the best shape of his life. He wont be 6-1. Has the advantage of saving ground early, eyeing them all. Then mowing them down.....
Thanks for addressing my question. A thumb race, that earlier CD affair.
I\'m not so inclined to use the digit with colts. More likely with distaffers.
You eschew confidence, as opposed to doubt, the bane of crushing a race. Good on you.
I heard Mercante will scratch, and that is a pace factor. I have been critical of OXO, mostly because of some suspect buys - but at some point you must acknowledge success. It looks like Instagrand has a chance as a sire. I\'m hoping there is enough pace for Irad to run them down on Event Detail (8-1). He really had no chance the way the last race was run.
Will Walden has emerged as a trainer to be reckoned with, just as his Dad was. I\'m wondering if he can get two stakes wins on the card. That OXO in the last certainly gets a look. Electric burst to win last race.
Probably don’t mean eschew.
Yeah - I blew that one. Thanks Jerry.
Having a command of language is important. So is spelling, lol.
Good call on maybe not handling the track. But Fort Washington just got plain beat and so did I. Pretty Bad but not brutal. I still loved how good his Sheet looked. He just didnt run to it today
Silver,
Too few people put their opinions out there, for whatever reason. I think a lot of people don\'t have the nuts.
I like seeing your point of view, and if I don\'t agree, or see something not discussed - I\'ll likely respond. You will see me do it over there sometimes.
When I do a race rundown, the disappointing thing to me is not the result (win or lose) - it is the lack of comment prior to the running. How can people have nothing to say? I don\'t get it.
Gary, I\'m not afraid to state an opinion and be wrong either. Im not disappointed the horse got beat. Im disappointed he ran so poorly. Now your judgment and instincts feel damaged. The horse was right there, turning for home, bore in and would not switch leads and ran like garbage.
I bet him to win and used two horses on top in the Exacta. Because he was so overbet, I actually bet less. But it was enough where it really hurt.
Congrats to T Pletcher for the job he did with Mindframe. That\'s what a real racehorse looks like. Repole and St. Elias have out a lot of money into the game. And it looks like they have some return in their investment coming. But he needs to keep winning.
Thorpedo Anna ran much better but atill looked tired the last 1/8th. They have a long campaign planned and have probably babied her some. Kenny was telepraghing the Personal Enaign. He is saying ,\"Show up, we will be there\"
Im heading up to the Spa for Whitney Day. And then DelMar for Pac Classic. Plenty of hiking and golfing planned in between. One bad bet doesnt ruin my Summer or Passion! Plenty more chances to win it all back. Perhaps beginning today. We just can\'t force it. The disciplined patient player always wins....
I singled him in the pick 6 and went 5 of 6. On a 6 dollar ticket.
Continue the discourse please. The learning never ends, and learning from wise men and women on here is something I look forward to.
Appreciate everyone\'s input and opinions on here.
How would we know what a perfect sheet looks like to you if you didn\'t tell us?
