Title: Azeri to Classic
Post by: sheba87 on October 26, 2004, 12:05:46 PM
Azeri is going to the Classic per Lukas.

Just ruined all the good prices in the Distaff.

I wonder who will go favored in there now?  Maybe 4 or 5 of them at 7/2.

Why would they run in the Classic with no shot?  Weird.

Because the owner is a knucklehead...albeit a rich knucklehead. He was, however, smart enough to be born the son of Allen Paulson.

Good Luck,
Joe B.

Changes the pace scenario in the classic, at a minimum.

She would have to run a lifetime best to finish in the top 5.

I Guess now they have a better excuse to still be Eclipse award winner and still lose on BC day. If they lose in the Distaff, they may not win the award depending on who beats her. This way she\'s protected and they can say well at least she tried to beat the boys.

Worst decision since 1991, when In Excess, a bonafide Classic contender, was entered in the Mile and finished 9th. Terrible......

The Distaff had solid potential to have the top two favs finish out of the tri, now only one in Ashado.

BDsheets - don\'t quite get how  or who you think beats ashado, SFF, or SJ...3 horse race, nothing more.

I am not thrilled with the big number coming in the race before. Historically, horses back up off a big pre-bc race.

Tamwheel is a contender.  Especially with the absence of Azeri, Tamwheel figures to make the lead.  Not sure what her number was at Keenland, but the two races before that were in the \"0\" range, which is faster than any Ashado race, except for the Cotillion.

I don\'t see Ashado bouncing at all off of that last race.  The pace was dawdling, so she exploded home to a big number.  In this case, I think the TG number isn\'t telling the whole story.  This was a VERY easy race, and not at all taxing on the horse.

I give her a Beyer style final number of 109, but an extremely low pace number of 83.  That\'s a workout, not a race.

Jimbo, hear you loud and clear - the figs are the figs!  But in watching the race last night a few times, I\'m with Beyerguy - it was way too easy for her.  In looking at the times on these and many BC starters, I give \'em some room if they win by 2+ lengths and the number is not spectacular.

>the figs are the figs!

Which set of figs. The Azeri camp said they were going to look at the Numbers and make their decision. Whose Numbers are they looking at, does Paulson make his own.

I am TOTALLY rooting for these guys but man does she look in tough. At least it jump started the national BC publicity machine.

And if she wins.........
