Biggest issue with the sport!
I truthfully can’t stand the breeding side of the game.
If you aren\'t gonna race them past their maiden win, then why the fâ€"k are we breeding horses??
I visited a a breeding operation while in Saratoga this summer.
Never mind the sires and that end of the over breeding.
Mares drop a foal and two week later are right back in foal.
Now I’m no scientist but a part of me thinks the incubator needs a little more time to recoup before they go back into foal.
Breeding industry i has a large part in ruining the sport and even more the animal.
Breeding is such a crapshoot it is tough to agree or disagree with the decision.
A horse who races just once is normally a bad bet to make it, but they can always point to Maclean\'s Music as an example of one who succeeded.
Justify raced just six times, but he is so hot right now they will give one like this a chance for that reason. And the fact the mare dropped a champion before.
Where I get uncomfortable is when one like this gets a 100+ mare book. Diversity really is a strength when it comes to blood. Some of the more successful sires get that way because of what they bring to the table. Or do not bring. I like to point out Into Mischief has no Mr Prospector.
I dunno. He last raced a year ago, obviously they tried to get him back to the races this year and couldn’t.
It will be interesting to see how many of their own mares they support him with, and what level. Elliott knows what he’s doing.
Ok I’ll bite.
What is he doing to improve the breed or the sport?
For his pockets I definitely agree.
This leads directly to a discussion about corporate good citizenship…
BUT ALSOâ€" as I’ve pointed out before, there have been lots of unsound racehorses that have become great sires. Hoist The Flag, Hail To Reason, Kris S, Danzig, I think Raise A Native too.

As it applies to racing, this is a great subject for a book ... or maybe a pamphlet ... at least a nice haiku.
Wikipedia says Raise a Native won 4 times in 4 starts as a 2yo and set or equaled three track records. You could also add Storm Cat to that list.
