My bias and love of the sport overrides the gut feeling I had after reading this. Why would anyone bet with such a dis-advantage?
I am to the point that my handle in the sport is considered a donation to the horses, since some of the take out goes to purses and that pays the bills. Kind of a twisted version of after care, just to do my small part & save this sport.
The tracks have made a deal with the devil, and know it. With the handle that the CAW\'s put into the pools, can racing survive without them?
In the long run it can’t survive with them.
I wrote a piece for TDN about this a few months ago, you can find it with a search on their site. CAW handle needs to be reduced to about a third of what it is right now, with lowered rebates. If that happens the tracks will make close to the same total amount from CAW they’re making now, without making it onerous for their core players.
Of noteâ€" as mentioned in that story, there are pools (and tracks) the CAW guys are not allowed into, or only can get into on a very limited basis.
And those are the pools I play regularly, thank God.
There handle t Del Mar was eye opening, they are accounting for over half of the handle!
