Title: Fair Odds: Whitmore Stakes
Post by: prist on March 15, 2024, 10:59:01 AM
The two favorites are fast in here, but could be vulnerable if they bounce. With that said:

TEJANO TWIST: 7/5
RYVIT: 9/5

TEJANO TWIST has been comfortable at around the 1 level ever since he was a late 3yo. Along the way he paired -2\'s at Oaklawn last year. He\'ll be tough to beat if history repeats itself.

RYVIT is off a two point top ... on short rest ... off lasix.

I\'m tempted to take a shot with JAXON TRAVELER. To bet against the two favorites I\'m going to need at least 6/1. JAXON TRAVELER is listed at 12/1 on the ML. That seems to be a good price, but he needs to keep improving. Can he do it, or is it too much of a reach? He\'s been slow to come around since the layoff.

Confidence Level: Low

Tejano Twist ran wide the last 3 furlongs on a day the rail was golden at Oaklawn even more so a few races later?  The whole world knows it.  He is best.  He should win.  But will be beyond a short price.

This is Gambling on racing today.  Horse would be about 2-1 legitimately 15 years ago.  Not tomorrow.  Even money to 6-5 seems where he ends up and if there is a scr, he will go lower.

Asmussen alternative always a consideration at Oaklawn and no problem with playing Jaxson Traveler but feels like a horse being geared up for a run in the Chick Lang at Pimlico on Preakness weekend but likely a few steps slower than the top one at their best.

Certainly won\'t argue that Tejano could be the \"free square\" on the late 5 bingo card, however my alternative certainly won\'t be Ryvit (never off the bute, rarely off the Lasiz).  As Richie says, short rest, bigger pic ahead.

No, I\'ll look to the 2nd trip James Graham is taking to our fiar city today for Keith Desormeaux.  3rd bk off a lengthy layoff, two strong efforts, and shipping up for this (which Keith has a positive ROI).  Yes, he\'s 7 YO.  James did fine with Dallas Stewart runner shipping, yes?  Certainly wasn\'t favorite that day.  The FG shippers fare well.  I\'ll use.

Nice call.  Hope you played him even at 5-1.
