Title: BC Tidbits
Post by: Fairmount1 on October 24, 2023, 07:27:10 PM
Has a horse ever come into the BC off a 181 day or more layoff?  You gotta be kidding me.  Even better, can someone accurately predict his off odds?   Don\'t mention Da Hoss.  He had a prep at least.

Can\'t wait to see the defections over the next week for a cough or a fever.  https://www.horseracingnation.com/news/Breeders_Cup_steps_up_veterinary_treatment_assessments_123

How about those intra-articular injections 14 days out from the BC?  Seems good for the game.  SMH.  Oh you haven\'t read the articles about that. . . yeah, you have to go digging for those.  Muth on the list.  White Abbario.  Dr. Schivel.  What a game.

In the last couple of years, the most obvious horse that comes to mind is Domestic Spending. He came into the Mile last year off a 448 day layoff. I know he was pulled up after breaking his pelvis (I saw that he was released from the hospital last year in December, but do not know what happened to him since). So obviously, that did not go as planned. In 2021, Kimari came into the Turf Sprint off a 217 day layoff and ran in the middle of the pack at 8/1. Note that the Turf Sprint has a number of winners off layoffs of 147 days or more â€" Mizdirection (twice â€" 160 and 147), Stormy Liberal (147), and Belvoir Bay (148), so lengthy layoffs are not a concern with that race apparently. Also, Blue Stripe had 189 days off prior to running 7th in the 2021 Distaff. So those type of layoffs are rare, but not unheard of.

Longest Layoff Winners in Breeders’ Cup Saturday Races
Invasor - Classic - 92 days
Magician - Turf - 142 days
Marche Lorraine - Distaff - 86 days
Last Tycoon â€" Mile â€" 72 days
Precisionist â€" Sprint â€" 132 days
Sistercharlie â€" F+M Turf â€" 84 days
City of Light and Cody’s Wish â€" Dirt Mile â€" 70 days
Mizdirection â€" Turf Sprint â€" 160 days (also won off 147 days)
Judy the Beauty â€" F+M Sprint â€" 76 days

Stormy Liberal and Belvoir Bay -- Peter Miller trainer. Just saying.

Good digging, Fairmount!

Thirty years ago, Gilded Time ran in the BC Sprint off a 370 day layoff (his prior race being his BC Juvy win). He ran well, finishing 3rd, less than a length behind the winner. Next out, he faded in the Malibu, finishing 6th at 4/5, and was subsequently retired.

German for \"Milk\", and the man behind \"Deadwood\", among others.

Another good example of sore horses running well first out, yes?

I get it - I was reflecting back on attending the first Breeders\' Cup. I knew it was forty years ago, bit really did not realize it was forty years ago (if that makes sense).

Fever #1, SCR Mage.  I\'m beginning to wonder if BC helps the barns write the Press Releases.

GRR is a bad deal but not being blown up.  I told a TG poster by text a few days ago that Mandella has the worst luck just days before big races.  Beholder out days before BC Classic.  Omaha Beach out days before the Derby.  GRR out the day of the SA Derby.  Tamara had a little fever before the Chandelier supposedly.  But this is ugly.  Couldn\'t train the day before b/c of foot issues and then boom.  That doesn\'t look good at all.

Several good posts on the layoffs.  Much appreciated.
